Ryugon: A very traditional and amazing ryokan

I can recommend this Ryokan, which means a traditional Japanese style hotel. Wonderful local food, 24 hours avilable public Onsen,,,,

The outstanding point is the building. They renovated very old traditional Samurai (maybe) house with nice small gardens.
Onsen (hot spring bath) is 24 hours available both inside and outside. (Gents and Ladies are separated.) All rooms are Japanese style. Very quiet.
The price is a bit expensive as the luxual traditional Japanese ryokan. But it's worth to stay!

Shihairu Lodge in Ishiuchi Maruyama: Stay in a Ryokan

To really go for the non-western Japanese Inn experience go for a ryokan. They're pretty different from western hotels but, comfortable enough. They can also be considerably cheaper than the western style hotels. The last time I stayed in one was when we went on a ski trip to Maruyama in Niigata Prefecture.

This ryokan in particular was ideally located right at the ski resort. They also rent skis and ski equipment, sleds, a small restaurant (of sorts) and they have a dinning hall. The dinning hall offers traditional Japanese meals but, they also can offer easier eats for the foreigners that don't have the stomach for Japanese food.
