Niigata

What can I tell you... I was born and have been bred for 18 years in Niigata!!!
We have the mouth of the Japan's longest river, Shinano, and I used to enjoy walking alongside the well-paved footpaths on ether side of the banks. The city itself is mid-sized and crams a bit of high rises in the centre but with much nature for the rest of the region, which I like very much not just because I was born in the city.
Our State produces the most delicious rice called Koshihikari and it sets you back about 20,000 yen for 10 kilograms!!! And, owing to that we do also produce some of the most prestigious traditional wines, saki, one of which is called Koshino-kanbai (I think this is no longer mass-produced and thus in a super-doper premium range). Unfortunately, I can't take to them... I'd rather go for "Dinki Di" (genuine) Aussie red wines, mate!!!
Off the coast in Sea of Japan we catch heaps of "sweet shrimps" as we call it. You see them on the top of rice in some top-range sushi restaurants. Murakami region of our Prefecture is renown to salmon artificial farming as well as its fishing.
Also, I would like to mention my city will host several World Cup 2002 soccer matches, one of which is the very first match in Japan (not the Opening match) that even the Japanese Emperor and Empress pays a visit to. I ponder the reasons we won the right is because:
1. Have established air link to Seoul, South Korea for ages
2. Prepared to spend a huge amount of money on constructing a new stadium
Speaking of air link, the Niigata City has sister-city agreements with a few Russian cities and thus direct flights to those cities, namely Khabarovsk and Irkutsuk. Hence, Niigata is THE gateway for businesses who are keen on promoting to Russia and travellers to Russia.

Beside my home town, Niigata, I have been to the following locations on the list (in an alphabetical order);
Aizuwakamatsu, Akita, Aomori, Fukui, Fukushima, Ishikawa, Joetsu (a district of my State), Kanazawa, Kumagaya, Kyoto, Maebashi, Nagano (1998 Winter Olympics held), Nagoya, Nara, Omiya, Otaru, Sapporo, Takasaki, Tokyo, and Toyama.
One comment: I don't really cherish Tokyo despite the fact that lots of amenities are there. It's just a crammed megalopolis and cigarette smoke permeates everywhere you go!
