24 Hour Internet and Manga Cafe: Tight Budget Travel

If you are on a tight budget, you don't have a lot of luggage, and you want to see Okayama, you can go to the 24-Hour Internet and Manga Cafe and pay to stay twenty-four hours. There are snacks available to purchase if you get hungry, and there are bathrooms and a shower.

I used the internet here, but I did not stay overnight. For many travellers, this type of accommodation sounds terrible, but for a budget traveller who wants to be right in the city, you may want to consider staying here.

Youth Hostel: Friendly

This place is friendly although if one guest is noisy, you really hear it, because it's Japanese style accomodation sleeping on tatami. So don't forget your earplugs. There is a common room. You can have breakfast and dinner for a hefty surcharge or eat your own things there but there are no kitchen facilities to use.

Price for bed in dorm for member: 2940 Yen

Ring ahead, don't just show up (= hostel ettiquette)

TAKEBE INTERNATIONAL VILLA: FISHING, CHERRY BLOSSOMS, HOT SPRINGS

Takebe is part of the Okayama International Villa Group, with other locations in Hattoji, Ushimado, Shiraishi Island, Fukiya, & Koshihata.
3000yen per person, per night. 2500 if you are a member.

Very rural. You`ll probably be the only foreigners for miles around, besides the other Takebe guests. Good, clean rooms with surprising features (the sink in your room slides out & there is a toilet underneath!). Free use of the Kaikan Onsen located next door where there is a rotunburo (outdoor bath). You have to cook your own meals in the kitchen. A suggestion: SUKIYAKI!! And because the max. occupancy is 10 people, you are not disturbed by alot of people & noise.

HATTOJI INTERNATIONAL VILLA: WANT A RUSTIC, COUNTRY SETTING?

Hattoji is part of the Okayama International Villa Group, with other locations in Takebe, Ushimado, Shiraishi Island, Fukiya, & Koshihata.
3000yen per person, per night. 2500 if you are a member.

This villa is a converted traditional farmhouse. It's a traditional Japanese country house: tatami mats, sleeping on futons, sliding doors, goemonburo (steel bathtub), thatched roof, irori (charcoal hearth used for cooking and also heating-a gathering place for the family), etc.
HATTOJI is very secluded so you get the sense of a Japanese rural village. You won`t see other foreigners here besides the other people staying at the villa. There are bikes at the villa that you can use for free to explore the village. You can go hiking on the various trails. Nearby is Hattoji Temple that you can visit. Next to the villa is the Hattoji Folk Art Museum.
I highly recommend staying here. You really get a sense of old Japanese life in a village. This is the place to go to get away from the big cities & country.
