Hotel Taiyo is good for a budget traveller. I believe the service is above-average considering the fact that I did not have any problem from the front desk to my hotel room. I chose the Japanese-style room and bed with the intention of experiencing the real Japanese ambience.

The hotel is clean and so with our room. It has all that I needed for personal hygiene and the most comfortable Japanese bathrobe called Yukata. There is television and refrigerator and a small washroom.

The most important item that I appreciate in this hotel is that there is a internet access that is provided free of charge to be used by hotel patrons. This cannot be found in other hotels so it is a plus factor.

Although my room has a restroom, the bathing facilities and sauna at the ground floor is superb. It was my first experience and would love to do it again. It is a huge room provided with all the necessities like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Swimming suits are not allowed and bathers are encouraged to try and enjoy the traditional "spa". I would consider this hotel a 3-star but was able to provide all a Japanese hotel could offer.

A western style hotel, with a good breakfast buffet.

This hotel is located in a relatively quiet neighbourhood, but also close to to the busy nightlife areas like Dotombori.

The rooms are tiny. Shared facilities but male and female floors. Staff speak very little English but phone reservation worked ok. They have western and japanese style rooms.
Single room costs 2000 Yen which is far cheaper than the Youth hostel.
Microwave and water heater on the floor as well as hair dryer.

It's a good idea to look it up on the internet for the map. The street it is located in, is very special in terms of the clientel. There are several business and other cheap hotels there. I didn't see any other female on the road but lots of men at the bottom of the social ladder and some quite alcoholic. Great budget place but not for the faint hearted.

Dotonbori Hotel Osaka: The Worst value for money in the World    Check Rates

  • Entry to Dotonbori Hotel, Osaka - Osaka
    Entry to Dotonbori Hotel,
    Osaka
    by Hewer
Ahh...the iconic Dotonbori Hotel. Instantly recognisable by the unusual facade at the front, this hotel is a well-established part of Osaka's urban landscape. And also the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I moved apartments in September 2005 and during this process stayed for three nights here. I chose this hotel because it is a five minute walk from where I work, but I would have been better off staying far away. The rooms are tiny - really tiny - too small even for a photo and I had to crouch in the shower because it was just too small (I am only 6"3).

The hotel cost 12,400 yen per night. This is an absolute rip-off. The amount of English-language material is minimal (if you were going there as a tourist) and there is no cable TV. You can pay 1000 yen extra per day for one extra channel which shows re-runs of Dallas, Burke's Law and Columbo.

There is 24-hour free internet in the reception area, which you can use ten minutes at a time. And of course the location is good too. But if I was staying one night in Osaka again, I would sooner sleep in an internet cafe or stay in a bar all night.

Clean and efficient. Japanese or Western style rooms available. Elevator will take you and luggage to your room. Stayed in a single Japanese style room. Close to HEP 5 and Umeda and Osaka Stations. Many restaurants and shopping malls along the way. However, area is a bit Kinky. There's a porn DVD rental shop nearby and streets outside hotel. May not be safe after midnight for single ladies since there are a few local bars around. Room has bathroom & toilet, which is very small. Toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shower & shampoo are complimentary in bathroom. Yukata, towels, hot water thermos, tea in room. Comfortable futon and fluffy blankets, but pillow was small and a bit hard. Wall mirror was in an odd place so do your makeup in the bathroom. Peaceful night sleep, but can be quite noisy around 3am - 4am. I suspected stragglers from the clubs stayed for the night. I'd recommend Hotel Kinki to budget travellers who prefer a hotel than a dorm for privacy. Central location and close to shopping malls.

Private bathroom and toilet. Allows you to leave your luggage prior to check in and after you check out. Friendly staff. There is midnight curfew, but I can't remember which door they will lock (the front or the back?) I'm satisfied with Hotel Kinki as I only stayed for 1 uneventful night. Larger rooms available for twin or triple share. Vending machine, card operated laundry and 1 PC available in lobby.

  • Enormous room (for Japan). Convenient access by train to Kansai airport and Namba. I didn't eat there but the restaurant looked lovely.

From our 21st floor room we had a spectacular view across the city.

  • The hotel is not new, but kept up-dated and very clean and comfortable.

The room size is bigger than what you get in business hotels in the area.

The hotel is located right next to JR Osaka station. You can walk to many shops and restaurants in the area. 3 min. walk to Umeda subway station.

I love the free internet access! Not all rooms have the access, so be sure to ask for it when you book the room.

Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport: Hotel Nikko-Kansei    Check Rates

  • By Phiil on August 26, 2002
  • It was comfy and nice, probably Gatwick Hilton type of prices, more suited to executives than travellers, but since it was free as a part of the flight, others might receive the same deal and wonder what the hotel is like. Lots of facilities, (laundries, massages, gyms) were available but were at an extra cost for most things. Err, it had a radio in the bath/shower so that you could listen to anime cartoons playing on TV whilst in the shower. The toilet was not the technical miracle I have come to expect of Japan, providing no analytical facilities whatsoever, but it did flush by itself, cool.

And there was a remarkable kettle in the room which had a button which when pressed would turn it from a kettle into a chilled water maker....?!

  • Japanese Youth Hostel - Osaka
    Japanese Youth Hostel
    by kiwigal_1
Osaka can be an expensive place to visit. If you are on a budget then there is no better way to save than by using youth hostels for accomodation. If you are travelling around the whole Kansai region (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara, Himeji etc.) then I suggest that you base yourself in just one of these places and make day trips by train to each place. In Kyoto you may want more than a day but for most of the other places a day will be enough.
2,300-3,150 Yen per night (members price).

  • Chisan Hotel Shin-Osaka, a five minute walk from Shin-Osaka Station,
Two people, 2 twin beds, one night=8820 yen ($80).
Breakfast for two: 2000 yen (less than $20).

The modern, clean hotel had a very small room for us, just enough space to walk between two twin beds, but at this price, who cares?
