Shuttle to/from Kyoto

by steve95602

In mid-May, three of us are flying into Osaka's Kansai Int'l, prior to taking a cruise which departs from the Temposan pier.
We'd like to spend a couple of days in Kyoto, but before booking a hotel there, we'd like to know the best (economical) way of getting (1) from Kansai airport to Kyoto and (2) from Kyoto to Tempozan Pier.
There are 3 of us (one is a 90 year old man using a walker).

Wow ! there is a 90 yrs old man in your trip! I'm afraid you 'd better consider it details in your trip. Since last summer, I lived in Kyoto for almost 6 weeks. I am a bit familiar about the traffic there.
1) you can take bus or JR from the Kansai airport. The termials of the JR is convenience for travallers.
If you take JR , you can check the schedule of the train here : http://www.hyperdia.com/
Usually it takes almost 35 mins to go to Kyoto from Kansai airport.

If you take bus, in my memory I think it takes almost 45mins-1hr.
The station of the bus stop in Kyoto also near the JR Kyoto station.

2) I lived in a guest house as the link showed below. I found that guest house is clear and comfortable. And there are 3 beds room. But you have to check it up the avaiblity. And it is not expensive but in good environment and a bit convenience if you want to travel in Kyoto. Just check the infromation of the web of the guest house !

I hope it helps, have a nice trip !

I forgot to answer that Tempozan Pier is located in Osaka. That means you have to transfer if you take JR from Kyoto. Firstly , you have to take the train to go to Osaka Station (it takes almost 35 mins if you take the express train) and you have to take the subway in Osaka : Subway Osakako Stn.
- Exit the Hanshin Expressway (Wangan Route) at the Tempozan off-ramp.
- Take Chuo Odori (Central Avenue) for Tempozan
It takes almost 20-30 mins.
But the station which is not near Tempozan pier , so maybe you have to think it over to take the taxi from Osaka station. Since you go with an 90 yrs old man. :P

** Bus bound for Tempozan **

by Norasuz5

Hi. From Osaka or Namba, you can get a bus going straight through to Tempozan.
From Osaka station: No. 88, 88B, 88C
From Namba station: No. 60
Operated by Osaka-shi bus (Osaka City Transportation Bureau).

Good luck with your journey.

Travel Tips for Osaka

Fruit Picking in Osaka

by nexusangel

If you are there in Autumn season, this farm is a great place to go.

Yamabikoen is located in the southern part of Osaka in Tondabayashi.
Mikan (mandarin orange) picking is available from Oct to December
Chestnut picking is available from September to October
And Sweet potato "digging" is available from September to November.

The place is run by a sweet elderly couple, but they do not speak much english though.

They have an open air BBQ pit area as well.
If you use their ingredients is 2500yen per person
If you are just renting the pit it's 500yen.
Great if you have just picked Sweet potatoes :)

For Mikan picking it's 800yen for Adults 700yen for Kids
How the "picking" works is that you pay a flat fee and you can pick as many as you like, but you have to eat your pickings in Yamabikoen itself.

For Chestnuts it's 1000yen for Adults 400yen for kids, but you get to take back home 500g of chestnuts on top of the ones you eat in Yamabikoen.

For Sweet Potato it's 220yen per piece.

Access is a little tricky but fun, as you get to see Rural Osaka.

From Nankai's Nanba station, take the Nankai Koya Line Express to Kawachinagano Stn.
Transfer to Kintetsu's Minamiosaka Nagano Line Semi-Exp train and take to Tondayabashi Stn.
From here take 金剛東条 Konga toujou bus (from 4th platform) and alight at 蒲 Gama bus stop.
Call 090-4303-9751 for a free pickup to Yamabikoen.

There's also a hiking course that starts from Takidanibudou Stn
Map's located here http://www.yamabikoen.com/img/high-course.gif
It's a 2.2km course that takes about 40mins.

If you drive there, parking is Free.

Osaka Subway

by ChuckG

If you plan on going all over town, get a One-Day Pass and don't think about fares anymore. Available for 850 Yen. For even more convenient, you can get the Rainbow card which gives access to subway, bus and train.

The Peace Cafe

by GenkiMac about The Peace Cafe

It has ambiance which is the most difficult ingrediant to find in an average priced restaurant in Japan. Even the toilets have fabulous decor.
The staff are friendly and in the evenings they have a DJ spinninng.
You have the option of sitting on the outside porch area too just like a real cafe! Iced Chocolate drinks, white wine, the bread, the sandwiches, and all the food I have been dreaming about since I got to Japan.

Umeda Sky Building

by Rabbityama

While many of Japan's cities have some sort of building where you can view the surrounding city, not all of them are really worth the money. The Umeda Sky Building is one however that is worth it, especially at night! The city is beautiful and with it all lit up with the bridges over the river, it's a great way to end a day of sightseeing!

Entrance is 700 yen.
