The Worst value for money in the World

Ahh...the iconic Dotonbori Hotel. Instantly recognisable by the unusual facade at the front, this hotel is a well-established part of Osaka's urban landscape. And also the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I moved apartments in September 2005 and during this process stayed for three nights here. I chose this hotel because it is a five minute walk from where I work, but I would have been better off staying far away. The rooms are tiny - really tiny - too small even for a photo and I had to crouch in the shower because it was just too small (I am only 6"3).

The hotel cost 12,400 yen per night. This is an absolute rip-off. The amount of English-language material is minimal (if you were going there as a tourist) and there is no cable TV. You can pay 1000 yen extra per day for one extra channel which shows re-runs of Dallas, Burke's Law and Columbo.

Unique Quality: There is 24-hour free internet in the reception area, which you can use ten minutes at a time. And of course the location is good too. But if I was staying one night in Osaka again, I would sooner sleep in an internet cafe or stay in a bar all night.

Munchkin Mansions

I live in Osaka, so my experience of hotels is pretty much non-existant. However, this is where my folks stayed when they came to visit, and they both liked it.
There is probably cheaper accomodation in Osaka, but this is pretty much as close to the centre as you can get, being right on Dotomburi and only 100 metres from Midosuji.
The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke english to a high level, despite continually protesting their lack of ability to do so.
Rooms are what you would expect from a standard business hotel, nothing spectacular but comfortable.
Bookings are slightly cheaper when made on the internet at around 9000 yen for a room.

Unique Quality: The entrance to the hotel is guarded by four slightly disturbing stone statues of what can only be described as "evil munchkins sent from Hades to kill us all."
They should be avoided at night, especially when drunk. As they may come to life.

Good location good price

Good location, affordable price, a business hotel with no frills.
THe room was small but complete, female guests get a small goodie bag of shiseido samples. The toilet/bath was also small but good. They had the intelligent toilet bowl with seat warmer and arse cleaner equiped.
This is also 1 hotel that serves breakfast buffet ( some packages has it, if not you pay abt 500 yen i think ). THe breakfast had a lot of variety, a nice mixture of japanese and western food.
), you can find out more by doing a search on Dotombori hotel or check out welcome inn ( itcj )

Unique Quality: 4 big faces as pillars, representing 4 main races of the world

Excellent location

About 10 minutes walk from OCAT and JR Namba, and right in the middle of action packed Dotonburi, it is an excellent place to stay.

Especially if you're arriving in the midst of high summer, and don't really want to sweat it out climbing slopes or walking long distances from the train stations.

Being a business hotel may indicate that it's a little cramped for a family outing, but for the lone or pair traveller, it's probably perfect.

Unique Quality: Right in the middle of Dotonburi - play all night and make a quick escape whenever you wish.

Hotel in Dotonbori

Just stayed here overnight. It`s located in an interesting district called Dotonbori, a place full of pachinko and shopping in Osaka.

Unique Quality: Nice room and clean but small.

Good location good price

The room was pretty small but complete. They even throw in a goodie bag of samples from shiseido etc for female guests. The toilet/bath is small, but i love the intelligent japanese toilet bowl with seat warmer and ass cleaner.
What is good about this hotel is the affordable price and you can pay a little more for a breakfast buffet which is not usually found in japanese hotels. THe location is also excellent, situated at the head of the Dotombori street.

Unique Quality: The most unique quality of this hotel has to be the four gigantic midget statue pillars right at the entrance. They are supposed to represent 4 main races of the world.

Cheap and easy access to food!

I've personally stayed in this hotel twice in my previous 2 trips to Osaka.
Famous for their interesting Hotel Front.

It's very easy to get to from any Nanba station, and only 5mins walk to Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori main food area, Nanba Underground shopping and America Mura.

Lots of great food in the area and a couple of Conbinis scattered around.

Rooms are small (typical of Japanese Business Hotels) but clean. An Air purifier is provided in every room.
Service is great and there is always english-speaking staff on hand.

Bookings can be done on their comprehensive English website.

More about Dotonbori Hotel Osaka

Dotonbori Hotel

by SueWarwick

Easy enough to find the hotel on the main Dotonbori stretch as it’s the only building in the area with four heads on the outside!

Check in was painless and the staff speak good English.
The room has to be paid for at check in. A standard double room is 12,000 Yen (cheaper rooms are available) This price included breakfast.

The room itself was very small but was extremely clean and came with everything you would need; free bottle of water in the fridge, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, alarm clock, a water boiler that doubled up as a humidifier, a yakata (Japanese pyjamas) and a hair dryer.
Interestingly the pillows were developed by NASA and did help provide a decent nights sleep. The air-conditioning was very welcome too!

Vending machines, microwaves and ice machines are available on most floors.
Any ladies staying at the hotel are given a 'Ladies Set' containing various lotions, cotton buds etc

Breakfast is in the form of an all you can eat bufet.
Lots available; burgers in a tomato based sauce, noodles, green salad, dumplings, bacon with broccoli, sausages, omlette, coffee, miso soup and rice

Check in from 3pm.
Check out 11am The hotel has four big heads on columns at the front.
The faces are an Aisan, an African, an Arabian and an Occidental.

Apparently you are supposed to rub your face with the face of one of the heads to share their special powers. (Friendshop from the Asian, health from the African, savings from the Arabian or success from the Occidental)

I did not stay at both hotels, but I prefer Dotonbori Hotel because of economical price and located at the heart of Osaka.
