From Osaka to Tokyo
by sailor_p
Hi everyone
I would be visiting Japan in end Oct. One of the things we would be doing is to take the shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo. In this respect, can anyone advise me how do I go about buying a tix in Osaka and what are the things do I need to take note?
Many thanks!

I'm not trying to sound silly, but go to Shin-Osaka Station (not Osaka Station) and buy your tickets at one of the ticket booths. Then take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Tokyo. The Nozomi Shinkansen are the newest and fastest trains that do the run in the least number of stops.
If you are coming in to Kansai airport, you can buy the tickets at the station at the airport. Take the Haruka from the airport and transfer at Shin-Osaka.

Thank you! That really helps!

You are quite welcome. I would like to tell you about all the lovely scenery on the way, but unfortunately, I can't. My daughter and I had just arrived from a trans-Pacific flight and both of us promptly fell asleep as soon as we left Osaka. It was a good thing that the train terminated in Tokyo, so we could not miss our stop.

Hi! Welcome to Japan :-)
During Shinkansen ride from Osaka to Tokyo,
you will be able to see Mt.Fuji on your left.(if the weather is clear).
Good luck!

sailor_p - I hope you have better luck than I did. Both times I passed it on the Shinkansen were cloudy days and I didn't get a chance to see it at all.

Hehe, it is a bit difficult to see Mt.Fuji clearly from Shinkansen train.
The possibility is...hmmm I gusee 45%???
Mt.Fuji is shy and it is often behind the clouds.
Even if you can see the foot of it, the top is often covered with clouds.
The biggest reason why seeing Mt.Fuji is difficult is... the timing.
Shinkansen train runs very fast and you see Mt.Fuji for only a short time (maybe 1 minute?)
When I was travelling with my mother, we were looking forward to seeing it.
Mt.Fuji appeared very beautifully..but unfortunately my mother was in the lavatory...hehehe.
Good luck!!

Travel Tips for Osaka
for a trendy slightly...
by GenkiMac
for a trendy slightly expensive but atmospheric shopping trip visit minami sanbe . There are some nice little cafes with outdoor seating and delicious food and some interesting shops not all expensive. From namba station take exit 14 and walk left up Midosuji. It is the area on the left side of midosuji a block in from the main road.
Long and Narrow Street...
by o00o
This is a long narrow street paved with stones with a line of shops of old establishment, both large and small, while Mizukake-fudo Buddhism statue of Hozenji Temple which is well known among citizens lies at the northern end of the street. This street reflects the atmosphere of old-fashioned street of Osaka and is noted for the story of Meoto Zenzai written by Sakunosuke Oda.
Train... from Kansai airport...

Train... from Kansai airport you take the Haruka. Unless you're going during peak-tourist season, don't waste your money reserving a seat. There are always plenty non-resrved seats and you'll save a little.

subway... lots of them in Osaka...
This picture is actually of the Hankyu train... the cheapest way between Kyoto and Osaka and you end up right in the heart of Kyoto on Karasuma/Shijo street! Just \390 from Umeda to Kyoto! Take the express, about 40minutes... I think.

It is a rather imposing structure with gold and black decorations. The gold reflecting in the sun is capable of blinding you.
However, the original castle has actually been destroyed and what stands now is a reconstruction.
Osaka Business Park (OBP)
by tyusen
Osaka Business Park (OBP) is one of representative streets lined with skyscrapers in Osaka. Some major companies are based at OBP and there is a big shopping mall called IMP (International Market Place). Some buildings have sky restaurants and you can have a dinner with a beautiful night view of Osaka. The landscape of OBP is also wonderful. It’s very popular scene with visitors.
