Hotel in Osaka and Price for train Osaka-Kobe

by magictravelers

OK, this is our 2nd post for our trip to Kobe on October. We are traveling to Kobe to attend a MTG PT at the International Exhibition Center in Kobe from October 20-22. We arrive to Osaka on Sunday and plan to stay there until Wenesday, when the rest of the gang arrives and we go to Kobe. In Kobe, we are looking at the Toyoko Inn Hotel which so far is the cheapest and closest to the IEH.
We have 2 (more) questions:
1. What is the cost for the train from Osaka-Kobe, and the back train?

2. Any cheap, but nice hotel, hostel or guest house in Osaka? We would like to be at least close to the metro, or the center.

We will try to go to Kyoto for a day visit:
Train cost from Osaka? Any recomended tours?

And finally, for now-what is the weather like in October?
(So, I lyed. More than 2 questions :-b)

Cheers from Barcelona

Osaka to Kyoto: 30min. 540jpy
Osaka to Kobe : 30min. 390jpy

Using buses is convenient to do sightseeing in Kyoto.
I heard that there is "One day (or Two day) Travelcard" for the buses in Kyoto.

In Osaka, hotels in Umeda is the best. There are so many budget hotels near Umeda station. What is your budget per night?

And I think it's fine in October, great for sightseeing!

Travel Tips for Osaka

Fanatical Fans Celebrate

by mikegr

Dotombori Bridge in Namba is a great place to hang out and people watch at any time, but by far and a way the best time to visit the bridge is after a major sporting event (notably the end of the baseball league season). At these times, fanatic supporters strip off naked and jump from the bridge into the filthy canal below.

A friend of mine jumped in after the 2002 World Cup and was ill for quite a while after - make sure you are up to date with your shots if you intend to join in!

Not to be missed!

Subway system

by BikkleYunker

From what I recall, the starting price of the subway ticket in Osaka was 200 yen (a scoche less than US $2). Luckily, unlike the Tokyo system, all of the Osaka lines seem to have been operated by one parent company (or the companies joined forces so that you do not get the randomness that is the "Tokyo Metro" corporation and the "Toei" corporation).
Also, as a self-proclaimed subway enthusiast, I was most pleased to hear that, very soon after the doors of the train closed, the recording announced the name of the next station and the available lines to transfer to, as well as which door (left or right) would open upon arrival at the next station. This has always been a pet peeve of mine, as I do not like to get in the way of the other people right before the train has stopped (the point at which typically, the announcement comes on of which door will open). Besides, they don't want me in their way anyways, eh

My Favourite Ramen Place

by nickinosaka about Couldn't Read The Name

I ate quite a lot of ramen when I lived in Osaka, and ramen shops are almost as common as convenience stores in Japan. This place was my favourite because of the quality of the broth and the freshness of the pork, and the gyoza (dumplings) are a must have! The atmosphere is great too--no catering to tourists here! The interior is decorated with lots of wood tables and chairs and a long bar, and there's a couple televisions going at all hours. It's a little out of the way for standard tourist itineraries, but if you wind up in the Kita-Tatsumi area, give the place a try. Have the buta-ramen (pork) with a side dish or two of gyoza (depending on your appetite).

visit Osaka jo. (Osaka castle)

by GenkiMac

It's green and gold. Which is unique amongst other Japanese castles. The grounds and the walls are cool too. I was there in time for the hanami festival(cherry blossom festival) so the view from the castle of the city with cherry blossoms was lovely. The inside is not original and has been turned into a museum. I have not been inside and am not planning to but if you have the time and the interest it is probably worth it....

National Museum of Art

by Rabbityama

The National Museum of Art is a world-class art museum with exhibits from both Japan and abroad. I went here when they were featuring modern Chinese artwork, which was spectacular! Because they change exhibits all the time, it is best to visit their website if you wish to know what will be featured when you visit. (the website I've listed is in English)

Entrance is 420 yen but may be more depending on special exhibits.
