Hi guys,
Could you please advice me how can I get to Osaka from Tokyo?
I am taking my wife to Tokyo and Osaka in Sept (birthday present). Is there any places to stay rather than hotel? more "Japanese"?
Much appreciated.
Teh easiest, fastest and most convenient way to travel is by shinkansen (bullet train).
The least expensive is to use the Kodama shinkansen and to buy the Puratto Kodama Economy Plan.
It can be purchased in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and other cities But only from JTB offices at Tokaido Shinkansen stations. I bought mine at the JTB office in the Tokyo Central Station for the Tokyo-Kyoto trip.
MUST be bought at least 1 day in advance of the trip.
You cannot buy it at regular ticket counters. But you can buy it through travel agents such as JTB or JR Tokai Tours. The latter has branches at Tokyo and Shinagawa Stations. You can also purchase for travel between several other cities on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line.
Remember it has to be JR Tokai/JR TOURS/JR CENTRAL (orange coloured JR) *not* JR East (green colored JR), ticket offices in Tokyo/Shinagawa Stations).
It includes a one way trip from the departure station to the destination station by reserved seat on a Kodama Shinkansen train. Plus, you get one drink for free.
NOTE: These trains have no dedicated luggage space. Don't carry too much with you!

It isn't evident from yor email, but if you are flying into Narita and going directly to Osaka, the easist way to go is to transfer to a domestic flight at Narita, onwards to Osaka. There is no need to travel to Haneda airport. If you leave the airport and travel to the Shinkansen station you will pay about the same for the trip and be adding several hours to your travel time.
If you are already in Tokyo, a domestic flight from Haneda to Osaka is very efficient (if you are within reasonable travel distance to Haneda). If it's easier for you to get to Tokyo Station, then take the Shinkansen.

My favorite hotel to stay when in Osaka is Rihga Royal Yotsuboshi. When I check in, the desk clerks all know me and treat me very well.
The service here is excellent, English spoken here! Photo shown is hotel lobby. This is where
I will meet my friends for when I mention to meet me in lobby, they know location! This hotel has very good reputation in Japan!
Motorcycle Accessory Stores-In Japan, motorcycle
stores carry many exotic accessories that are for
bikes not here in USA. This one in Osaka is called Corin, a franchised accessory store with locations all over Japan. There is another in Osaka I visited called Nankai. There are so many items to choose from. Stores have small aisles and are jammed inside with items for sale.
This place was fast, cheap and the food was delicious. The waiters/waitresses give you the choice of either cooking it yourself or letting them do the cooking (to cook for yourself make sure that you are handy with the little flipper that they give you. It is harder than it looks!). I recommend the pork and cheese okonomiyaki!!
When you leave Osaka station you`ll probably see agiant ferris wheel on the top of the Hep 5 building. It`s 500 yen & provides a cool 360 degree view of Osaka. Best seen at night. Hep 5 the shopping mall underneath is good. Most shops are clothing & best suited to younger people.
As Osaka is an important Japanese/Asian port, it's natural to assume there's an aquarium here.
The complex around the aquarium here (Tempozan Harbor Village) is a great way to spend the day with the kids, or on your own.
Within walking distance of the subway are:
- Universal Studios Japan
- Osaka Aquarium
- Suntory Museum
- Tempozan Marketplace
...and a further subway stop or two (or a good heathy walk):
- Osaka Maritime Museum
- Nanko Bird Sanctuary
- Asia World trade Centre (business)
- great shopping
