Osaka and time in the place
by deejo77
Yes it is probably to many nights - we were there for 3 in total (our plane got in late first night) and we came back from Tokyo and spent a night before we flew out again. The only really good thing is you could do a day trip to Kyoto or hiroshoma etc and have the one base.

Sumiyoshi Taisha
by mikegr
Sumiyoshi Taisha is Osaka's grandest shrine and is a 10minute train ride South of the city centre (on the Nankai line from Nankai Namba - 200 yen).
The shrine supposedly houses the Shinto Gods of the Sea, and is most famous for the beautiful humpbacked Sorihashi Bridge. For a change of pace from Osakas's other sights, it is well worth a visit.
Whilst the wooded grounds are permanently open, it is worth noting that the shrine itself closes at 5pm.
From Sumiyoshi Koen station turn left and you will see the bridge straight in front of you.
Taxi in Osaka
by freddie18
It is easy to find a taxi in Osaka. In fact, there is a long queau of taxi in front of the JR Station opposite Hilton Hotel and Hanshin Department Store. If you are in the downtown area like Umeda Skyline, you will have no problem taking a taxi. Just the same, I am giving you the telephone numbers of taxi companies which are available in Osaka:
816 679 38180
816 666 12181
816 632 82510
816 677 11437

Universal Studios
by Meg_nanako
If you have been to Universal Studios in Florida, this is such a bore. It's rather similar to California Universal Studios but is smaller and packed with lots of Japanese. At some rides prepare to quene for 2 hours and the fast passes are not cheap to buy.
The best ride is SPIDER MAN and I quened 2 hrs for it but it's very worth it.
They feature a 3D animation as you ride through the various adventures with SpiderMan. The stimulation at some points is so good that I really thought I was being carried up to more than 30 storeys high and dropped down! I enjoyed this ride best.
Time capsule
by tompt
On the castle grounds a time capsule is buried. The capsule was made during the 1970 EXPO. The thought is that the top part of this capsule will be opened every century, but the bottom must not be opened in 5000 years, which makes it 6970. We will not be around by then so we searched the internet for info, what is in there?
Here is what we found:
There are 2098 cultural assests of the 20th century in there.
Everything from the sacred to the profane is represented in the 2,008 objects (pictured left) enclosed: a silk condom, false teeth, a glass eye, insects encased in resin, an origami instruction book, pamphlets on how to brew sake, handcuffs, counterfeit money, a string of fake pearls, and that essential part of 20th Century life—a "micro-mini" television set.
If you want to read more about it, here is where we found it: http://www.retrofuture.com/timecapsule.html
