After a couple of nights at the Hearton, I decided to economize somewhat, now that I had adjusted to the culture.
I checked around on the internet & found the New Oriental Hotel (it's not exactly NEW, and it's not traditional ORIENTAL, but it IS a HOTEL!), a few subway stops away from downtown.

Unique Quality: Rooms are available in western- and Japanese-style (but I wasn't yet settled enough to brave tatami mats!).

Directions: Quite central to subways & sights, but also to the expressway if your room is on the front side of the building!
