cute school-uniforms
by globetrott
Take a look at these cute school-uniforms: the girls with their lovely hats and the boys with nice caps, that was interesting for me to see, because school-uniforms are something that are almost totally unknown in my part of the world, but sometimes we see them on TV of course.
Many people will wear a mask because of the pollution, that is quite strange for us to see as well, because I think the quality of the japanese air is not a lot worse than ours.
Underground Shopping 2
by nickinosaka about Umeda Station
Umeda Station incorporates a major transit hub and enough stores to bankrupt a small nation. The Big Man TV is a common meeting point, and the Kinokuniya bookstore next to it is the best place to find English-language books in Osaka. There are also areas called the "Fashion Museum" and "Gourmet Museum." Clothes and food, yes, but nothing museumy about it. The place is enormous and sprawls under several city blocks, so be careful about getting lost. It took me a few visits before I learned my way around.
EXCELLENT SHABU SHABU!
by heywinks about KASHIN "Heart of a Flower"
Locating in Umeda on Higashi Dori (restaurant/arcade) street, this shabu shabu/yakiniku restaurant is a gem. I`ve been here twice & have been totally satisfied both times. Their shabu shabu is excellent! It`s ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT beef, pork, & vegetables. You make everything yourself at your table. There are 3 kinds of beef you can choose from (fat % differences) & you will get two dips (sesame & ponzu-limey&vinegary). The price is good-only 2980yen! The menu is all in Japanese but if you tell them shabu shabu (located only on the 2nd floor) & look for the price on the menu that`s about all you need. You can also add white rice, a small entree special that they choose, & dessert for an added 500yen. After you are full of shabu, you will be served noodles as well.
You will definitely eat your full here. You won`t walk away disappointed!
Take a shower
by kyoub
There are shower rooms at the airport, station stop #1'.
Signs will say REFRESH
You pay the lady at the counter and then you are in for quite a treat.
She will give your towels, soap, and shampoo then lead you in the right direction
The showers have something like 12 jets that make it a very refreshing shower for sure.
I forget the price but it was very reasonable and well worth it.
Doya Doya!
by mikegr
Doya Doya is an Osaka festival with a difference.
Held on January the 14th each year at Shi Tennoji Temple, you won't see the standard festival wear (traditional kimonos or yukatas) here, but rather hoardes of youths in loincloths who compete for paper charms dropped from the temple ceiling, whilst getting drenched with cold water.
It should be noted that this is a spectator event and you can't participate in it, but it is still a lot of fun.
Wrap up warm and arrive early for a decent view.
Warning! You may think that you have got the perfect viewing spot if you stand directly facing the temple building and steps - be aware that when the participants arrive they carry huge banners which they stand between this vantage point and the temple - thus completely blocking the perfect view. You would do better to stand at the side of the temple.
The official start time is 2 pm, but be prepared to wait longer.
