I need help to plan for my Osaka trip
by jenny_au79
Hi... I'm planning a 6D5N trip to Osaka sometime in May08. A few must do's are visit a famous temple, Osaka Aquarium, a popular park, stay in a hot spring resort, shopping, Geisha performance and lots of raw fish eating...
Can anyone recommend which temple, which park, which hot spring resort, which Geisha performance & which good reasonable pricing restaurants should I go to in Osaka?
Is it recommended that I allocate a day or two to go to Kyoto/Kobe/Nara/Himeji? If yes, what should I do there and where best to stay 1 night?
Thanks for all your help :)

I agree with K...unless you have a particular reason for staying in Osaka you will find Kyoto the better base. If you are stuck on Osaka, then definitely have Kyoto as your 1 night stay. There is so much to see and do there, and you can go to Gion corner for your Geisha peformance. Also do not miss Himeji. It is spectacular.

I understand that Osaka do not have much place to visit. But I heard they have a lot of shopping area and such. I have to agreed with the other, it is better to stay in Kyoto longer than Osaka. Kyoto have so much more to see and they have some festival on May.(I have some photo from my last year trip to japan-go to my page)
I be going to Japan in November and this is my plan. Stay 4 day in Osaka because 1st day you can't do much as flight from KL will reach at night, spend 2 day in Osaka then on 4th day go to kyoto.Stay in Kyoto until the 6th day, then take bus to Tokyo. And stay 6 day in Tokyo because I love Tokyo so much.
Travel Tips for Osaka
Pachinko
by tompt
Walking through the Shinsaibashi and Dotombori districts you can´t help but notice how many pachinko halls there are.
And it is always busy. This picture was taken at 11:00 in the morning. The person sitting in front has already won many metal balls, which are collected in the baskets on the ground.
We didn´t understand the game, or the fun it is......
ELECTRONICS & COMPUTERS
by heywinks about NIPPONBASHI (AREA) aka DEN-DEN TOWN
Nipponbashi is a famous area next to Namba where you can buy discounted electronic goods & computers. You should bargain, as it is expected in most of the shops (even if the price is stated on a tag). If you buy a computer, for example, have them discount the price & also throw in a few extras like a cord or cover or extra battery.
If you are a foreigner & bring along your passport, you may not have to pay tax on the product. Computers, cameras, stereos, TVs, VCRs, etc. New & used items available.
Yakiniku- Korean Barbecue

Here I had the best meat ever. After dinning here everything else seemed tasteless. Order your meat and then grill it by yourself at your own pace. The prices are very low for the quality of meat that you get. This is my favourite dining spot in Osaka. Yukke.
Raw minced meat, egg and sesame. This dish is really beyond description.
Past and present

The Umeda Sky Building is a futuristic building which rises 170 metres into the Osaka skyline. Most of the building is occupied by offices, but there is an observation deck on the 39th floor and in the basement there is a food court designed as a Japanese street of 100 years ago. Enjoy the view and then fill up on sushi.
Osaka Jo
by mikegr
Osaka Jo (Osaka Castle) is a stunning re-construction dating from 1959. Set in an extensive park (populated by some of Osaka's homeless), it is well worth a visit.
The park is most popular on the weekend and during cherry bossom season in March, when countless hanami (cherry blosssom viewing) parties take place.
The castle is illuminated at night and is particularly photogenic at this time although I don't recommend walking alone through the park at night (it's probably quite safe but it is one of the more dodgy areas of the city so I advise a bit of caution).
The castle contains a museum, but is disappointing for those expecting an authentic interior, and it is apparent that a lot more effort went in to the exterior. Despite this there are some interesting displays and the view from the top floor is good.
Admission to the park is free. Entering the castle costs 700 yen.
