Osaka tips

by sno33

Hi all
Long time reader first time poster....
Well me and a few mates will be making a trip to Osaka in November and would like some ideas on as what to do there during our trip... We will be there for 10 days and would like to see night life and do some sight seeing...

We will hopefully pop down to a few clubs and pubs there and were hoping for some suggestions

thanks in advance!

Shinsaibashi/Namba areas are where the young people hang out in Osaka...and restaurants there open later as well.

For some culture, head over to Banpaku Park (there's some info on my Osaka pages). Japanese garden, bamboo grove, Museum of Ethnology...

You can go to Umeda and go shopping underground (it's like a city in itself!).

Osaka Castle is alright. Himeji Castle is better though.

You don't need to spend all 10 days in Osaka. Head over to Kyoto (30 mins away), Nara, Kobe, and Himeji (yes!). There's a lot to see in the Kansai area. :)

I would second a visit to Kyoto as well. It's only a short train ride and there is so much to see there. Also, Koyasan is a massive temple complex/town up on a mountain and it's accessible on the Nankai train line from Osaka and it's worth a visit, even a night in one of the temples.
In Osaka, Dottonbori is a pedestrian street that's filled with restaurants and big mechanical crabs. Something else to check out after you're full is Amemura, west of the Shinsaibashi subway station. It's the young, cool place to hang out. Check out the record and book stores in Amemura during the day to find fliers advertising what's going on at night.

Thanks for your all your answers.
Was also curious as to whether it was worth it to make a trip to Tokyo during that time?

A SHOPPING MECCA

by heywinks about IN SHINSAIBASHI

Shinsaibashi is an area of Osaka where shops line the streets. It`s a very fashionable area & you can find alot of designer shops here from abroad (Armani Exchange, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc). There is The Loft here & Tokyu Hands (stores where you can find anything!!). Department stores like Sogo & Daimaru are here as well.
You could very well spend a whole day shopping in Shinsaibashi. And Namba is just a few blocks down the street.
Shinsaibashi is also home to American Mura (American Village). American goods can be purchased here (alot of used clothing stores!!).

BURDIGALA WINE BAR AND...

by kat_on_moray

BURDIGALA WINE BAR AND RESTAURANT
This is a beautiful restaurant where you can spend a few hours sipping wine, eating 'real' bread and eating delicious Italian pasta - you'll forget that you are in Japan. The all-you-can-eat baguette they serve during dinner and the red wine.

Hep Five Ferris Wheel

by UKDaisy

You'll find this huge ferris wheel on top of a building, a shopping mall called Hep Five to be exact. The cost to ride is 500Yen per person (in Nov 2005).

The ferris wheel is open everyday (except the 3rd Thursday of every month) from 11am to 11pm. There's quite a lot of shopping and entertainment facilities in the area, the local bowling alley had the funkiest bowling balls some looked like basket balls.

TennoJi Zoo

by PartyRambo

A zoo is a zoo is a zoo... but it's been years since I've been to one, so I thought I'd take a look.
As zoos go, I wouldn't rate it high or low, but somewhere in the middle - but again, for a family afternoon, with the TennoJi temple and park right around the corner, it's an easy way to spend the day without walking forever.
