Great Location and Moderate Prices

We stayed at the Osaka Garden Palace in April 2012 for three nights and remained very satisfied with our visit. I selected the hotel based on the room price and location. It was within the $70-80 price range per night for double occupancy. The hotel is near Shin Osaka, and Shin Osaka is a major station in Osaka with access to subway, rail and the bullet train. The first night I arrived from Nagoya on the shinkansen (bullet train). The webpage of the hotel offers a great map of how to get off your train and reach the hotel shuttle stop (because Shin Osaka is huge, and you can spend the whole night going back and forth). The shuttle goes until 11 pm, so you are really covered if you appear at Shin Osaka before then. The room was very clean. As with most other reviews I can testify that hotel rooms and bathrooms in Japanese hotels are much smaller compared to American hotels (but hey, it's an island after all). If you sign up for breakfast on you arrival, you’ll get a 10% discount. Also, the hotel is very quiet. We couldn’t hear any other people. The only surprise were the pillows, they were “bean pillows” like the little toys that are bean toys. Anyhow we would be so tired be the time we went to bed that the pillows pose no obstacle to our sleep.

Travel Tips for Osaka

Udon noodle shops

by salisbury3933

There are a lot of tiny udon noodle shops in Osaka where there is only room to stand. The noodles are cheap, and the office workers come in, eat quickly and then get out again.

It's an interesting experience to see how quickly people come in, slurp down their noodles and then get out.

Shopping In Tennoji, Part Two

by nickinosaka about Mio Building

Those with an interest in Japanese women's fashion, and designer clothes in general, absolutely must see the Mio building next to Tennoji station. I went in looking for an ink pad for my hanko, the stamp they use for signing documents, but I didn't find it. What I did find was eleven, yes, eleven floors of high-end women's clothing boutiques.

Pizzeria Ristorante Sant Angelo
The atmosphere is very nice and all waiters are very friendly. They have real italian products so when you are tired of eating sushi... you can try something different! They have the best spaghetti ever!!! And I can tell you because I am italian!!!

Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum

by Rabbityama

This museum houses a small collection of ukiyoe paintings (woodblock paintings). Kamigata Ukiyoe are those created in the Osaka and the surrounding areas during the Edo Period. The interior of the museum is rather unique, as it looks like an adobe.

Entrance is 400 yen.

Osaka Aquarium (Kaiyukan)at...

Osaka Aquarium (Kaiyukan)at Tempozan Harbor Village
This is an excellent aquarium with a theme on the 'Ring of Fire', which is the ring of volcanoes that encircle the Pacific Ocean. The $20 admission is a little expensive, but I felt it was well worth it. It is a circular exhibit that you descend in a spiral around a center tank. There is also a marketplace next to the aquarium with shops and restaurants. The world's largest ferris wheel is also located here.
