The old classic Japanese construction and architecture is obvious very local. However, OSaka is very large business modern city, there is not much about temples and history to see with the exception of the castle area.

Hi Guys,
does anyone know the approximate cost to catch a cab from JR osaka station to Swissotel nankai. about how long this would take. Also, what are the alternative to get from JR osaka to the hotel? Any response would be appreciated.

It costs from 1800 to 2000 yen, 10 minutes.
By Subway (Midosuji-line)
From Umeda station (M16) to Nanba station (M20), it takes about 10 minutes, 230 yen per person. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Nanba.

Electronic Goods Shopping.
There's a Yodabashi just in front of the JR Osaka station. You will not miss it. It is a huge stall, where we spent 2 hours in it only looking at the camera, and PDA section. Interesting stall to explore. Not that cheap though. I can get those digital cameras at a lower price else where.
Korean bbq
In a korean bbq restaurant you have to prepare your own food on a big burner in the table.
Be sure there is a english menu, because a lot of meat is from parts of the cow we wouldn´t normally eat.
This restaurant is open from 11:30 am - 11:30 pm
Osaka Aquarium
Osaka Aquarium is a great place to spend the day and see sea creatures with your family and/or friends. Be very careful though, if you take small children. The place gets so crowded that if your child wanders off, like mine did, you'll be running around frantically trying to find the child. Luckily, Japan is a generally safe place to lose a child. Mine wandered downstairs to the help booth and ended up staying there with another child that had done the same thing playing a game while waiting for me to come pick her up. The aquarium, though, has some great ocean life swimming around in the tanks. So don't forget your camera and a leash for your kid.

In front of Japan Rail Osaka Station, there's a free(no cost) observatory. (Acty Osaka Building...the building in which Hotel Osaka Granvia is located)
From there, you can see the skyline of Osaka city.
