withdrawing cash from ATM

by kathyhere

Anyone know how many ATM's around that allow withdrawls using bank Visa debit cards, not cash type cads?

Re: withdrawing cash from ATM

by GrumpyDiver

Fugu's comments reflect my experience in Japan. Most of the bank's ATMs only worked for domestic (Japanese) cards. The only place that I was able to reliably get money out of ATMs was at the Post Office.

That being said, if the ATM is located inside the Post Office, it is only accessible during opening hours, so plan around that potential issue.

It's not going to be a problem. There are plenty of ATM's that accept cash withdrawals on Visa's network - PLUS.

I have my accounts in Japan with Shinsei Bank (because they have thorough English service). I use my Canadian bank cards (ATM & Credit) at their machines with no problem - They are on the PLUS network.

* I noted this on their website; "All city banks (Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho, Sumitomo Mitsui, Resona, Saitama Resona), 4 trust banks (Chuo Mitsui, Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo, Mizuho), Aozora Bank, Shoko Chukin Bank, Japan Post Bank and Seven Bank."

All those banks listed, which are basically all the largest banks (UFJ being the biggest) use the PLUS network, including Seven Bank (7-11). http://www.sevenbank.co.jp/intlcard/index2.html

Travel Tips for Osaka

INTERNET ACCESS

by heywinks

If you need to use the internet while in Osaka, go to Yodobashi Camera in Umeda. On the street level there is an internet cafe. I believe it is the cheapest in Umeda..about 300yen/hr I think. I haven`t been there but I`ve passed by it & there is always a line to use the computers. It`s a very convenient location though, & you can`t miss Yodobashi Camera.
It`s a HUGE white bldg right outside Hankyu/JR/Hanshin stations.

Using well developed public...

Using well developed public transportation, you can easily get across in Osaka. There are One-Day Pass and 'No-My-Car-Day' Pass (only for every Friday and the 20th of every month), and 'Surutto Kansai' that makes it available to take affiliated private trains. You can buy these useful tickets at ticket vending machines or stalls in stations.

Special one-day ticket...

by o00o

Special one-day ticket available for unlimited use on subways, the New Tram, and city buses during one day. An additional fare is required to take the Osaka Transport System Line (the OTS Line). An appointed date for use (the date you use the ticket) is not printed on the ticket when you buy it. It is printed for the first time when you insert it into the ticket gate slots of subways and the New Tram or fare boxes on buses.

Sunset at the castle

by K1W1

Visiting the castle just before the sun goes down gives you the chance to see the Osaka skyline change before your eyes. The castle is also floodlit which highlights the architectural beauty of the building.

Aquarium

by salisbury3933

I enjoyed the aquarium, but it's a good idea to go when it's quiet, a weekday for example, otherwise the crowds are horrendous. Osaka people aren't exactly renowned for their manners in such situations either, plenty of elbows going here and there.

There are plenty of different species to look at, and it's worth a visit as long as it's not on the weekend.
