Rinku Premium Outlet Osaka- How Far?
by Nissanmit
Hi,
I will be putting up in Kyoto for 3 nights. Thought of going to Osaka for a day and also to visit the premium outlet.
Can some one help me with the following queries:
1) I read from the outlet website that it is 44 mins from the Tennoji Station on the JR Hanwa line. Just wondering how far is Tennoji from the main JR station in Osaka?
2) Do I have to change trains? If so, where?
3) I suppose I can use my JR rail pass?
4) Is there a more direct train way for me from Kyoto?
Thanks!!!!!

Hi there! :)
The Rinku Premium outlets is very close by to Kansai International airport. To these outlets from Tennoji is about 50mins by train. The nearest train station is Rinku-Town, on the station just before the end which is Kansai Airport Station. However if you have JR RAIL pass then read answer number 4) as the "Haruka" train stops by Tennoji too.
2) From Osaka station to Tennoji is about 25 mins on JR local trains. There is no need to change trains in between.
3) You can use your JR pass in the lines of the network stated on your JR pass.. it covers a large network and you can exit or enter from any stations along the lines covered..
4) If you are from Kyoto going to Rinku Premium Outlets WITH JR RAIL PASS:
- Hop on the "Haruka" express train from Kyoto (sit only in the unreserved cabins)
- Go to Kansai international airport station
- Dont need to exit the train station.. hop on the train in the same platform on the other side. This train is usually a "local" train. The next station out of the airport will be Rinku Town station and that's where you get off..
- Walk abt under 10mins to the outlets..
Happy travelling :)
Travel Tips for Osaka
Hanami
by OsakaHatter
Ok, so this isn't just an Osakan cultural activity, but hey, I live in Osaka so that's where I do my hanami-ing!
Hanami is the practice of going looking at cherry blossom trees in full bloom and then getting royally drunk sat underneath them. It's one of the best opportunities of the year to see the Japanese let their hair down with picnics and parties going on well after sundown. We managed to get adopted by a group from a badminton party who plied us with food and drink all night!
The time period is quite narrow - the cherry blossoms only tend to last for a week or so. In Osaka it's early to mid April, but later further north.
Osaka's most popular Hanami spots are Osaka-Jo Koen and The Mint Museum (the stretch of river near Tenmabashi). Asashiobashi Park and Ryokuchikoen are also popular with people who live nearby.
There's some pictures from the Mint Museum in my Hanami 2005 travelogue.
Souvenir Shopping
by Hewer about Green Gift Shop
There aren't many souvenir shops in Osaka. You are more likely to find these in Kyoto. One of the best here is Green Gift Shop in Osakako, near the aquarium.
You are welcome to haggle here if you wish and you'll usually be given a few freebies for making a purchase. Kimonos, Flags, Magnets, Postcards, Coasters, T-Shirts, Key-rings - all the tourist gear.
Dallying Around for Cakes & Pies
by arianne_1504 about Dalloyau
This little french boutique specializes in exquisite chocolates, cakes and pastries. You can dine in the restaurant or take a little treat back to your hotel room. There are numerous Dalloyau outlets around Japan. To be honest, anything from Dalloyau will be exquisite!
Covered Shopping but Closes too early
by walterwu
From the exit of Namba Station, the covered shopping arcade of Dotonbori goes all the way to the other end where the other famous Shinsaibashi covered shopping arcade continues.
Seems like most shops starts closing at about 8:00pm. By that time, when we were at Shinsaibashi, the shops were all but closed except food/drinks outlets.
a great palace & museum
by globetrott
The castle of Osaka has a long history but the palace that you see there today is quite a modern replica dating back to 1959, it even has a lift inside.Dont miss to take a look into the museum of Osaka castle / palace. The entrancefee was 600 YEN. My favorite part of the castle was the terrace on top of the building, see my next tip for sme photos from there !
In my 4th photo: the signal-gun or noon-marker of Osaka castle, you will see it next to the entrancegate to the museum.
