Bridge Jump
by Hewer
Osaka people love their sport, and whenever a local or national team has a big win, it is customary for fans to jump into the Dotonbori River. Unfortunately this is one of the dirtiest rivers in Japan.
When the local baseball team seemed headed toward a national title in 2003, city mayor Fusae Ota ordered the area under the bridge cleared of debris, fearing injuries to jumpers. Among other things, 314 bicycles were hauled from the river!
This picture was taken after Japan's victory over Tunisia in the 2002 World Cup.
Amazing Subway/Train System
by nickinosaka
The best way to get around Osaka is by train/subway. You can get to within a 20 minute walk of anywhere in the city you need to go. Day passes are available at most major hubs, and be sure to get one if you're going to make several trips. And they are deservedly famous for their punctuality. As my friend Luke, who lived in Tokyo for five years, told me: if you think your train is a couple minutes early, don't get on, that's the wrong train. The clocks are superpunctual as well, apparently set to match the atomic clock in Nagoya.
Eat the afternoon away...
by OsakaHatter about Shakeys Pizza
Shakeys doesn't provide the best pizza in the world. It's not even the most comfortable of restaurants. Yet, if you pass it on any day in the afternoon, theres a queue of people waiting for seats!
Why? Because for 680 yen, you can eat as much as you want, for as long as you want between 11am and 5 pm. Note that drinks cost extra.
I suggest bringing tupperware ;) Definitely not my favourite, but a great example of the Japanese taking another countries cuisine and doing really odd things with it has to be the dessert pizza. Apple and custard on a pizza base. Hmmm.....

Tenshu-Kaku - The Keep (Main Tower) of Osaka Castle
The present Keep, towering 183 ft high above the rampart is actually a replica which completed in 1931. The original structure was burned to the ground in 1665 when it was struck by lightening.
the castle-walls

A special technique was used in order to set togeather the stones of the walls of the palace in Osaka. There are several walls and the first such all is surrounded by a moat. You have to walk through several gates untill you will finally get to the castle of Osaka.
