"Kakegawa Castle and Downtown Area"

Granted that Kakegawa is best known by the castle, but downtown area in Kakegawa has some other nice places to visit.

Takenomaru
The manshion of the wealthy merchant built in Meiji-Period. The house is basically built in samurai residence style but added some modern styles of Meiji and Taisho period.

Dainihon Hotokusha
Sontoku Nimomiya is one of the most respected Japanese historical figures particularly so among managers and presidents of the Japanese companies. Kakegawa is the place where Hotoku movement or Ninomiyaism has been put into practice. Dainihon Hotokusha the headquarter of Ninomiyaism neighboring Kakegawa castle has some historical buildings.

Gijsbert Hemmij's Tomb

"Hiking In Mt. Ogasayama"

Mt. Ogasayama may not be what you call a mountain. It is only 265 meters above sea level. But this place is rich in plants and wild birds rare around this area. If you love earth science it could be the good place to see the stratas. The mountaintop area is a place where Iyeyasu Tokugawa made a fortress to fight against Takeda clan. From one of the peak area Kakegawa castle can be seen from the distance. It is very difficult to find a castle in the naked eye though. Walking along a hiking trail is really thrilling. You may have to walk on the narrow ridge with both sides drop to the ravine. And you may have to pass the dark tunnels to get around the pond. There are a number of hideouts for the birdwatchers to get close to the birds undetected.
