Tabi-tabi Izu Guesthouse: Feeling at home

The first time we stayed in Tabi-tabi it was off-season and the guesthouse was rented not per room, but as a whole cottage. We were seven friends and we had the whole house to ourselves: four japanese style rooms painted in bright colors, clean incense scented toilets, traditional japanese bath with organic soaps, fully equipped kitchen with coffee and tea free service and wi-fi internet connection. Plus seven bicycles at our disposal. Futon and clean linen is provided, as well as towels and cotton yukata. No need to say we had a great time.

Unique Quality: The thing I appreciated most about Tabi-tabi is the wonderful couple who run it. They were most helpful in recommending all sorts of places and giving insiders' tips about the area. If requested, they will give you a lift at the station on your arrival, although taking a bus should not be a major problem.

The guesthouse is located a 10min ride by bus from Shimoda station, the closest bus stop being Kisami (260yen). In 3min by bicycle you can be at Ohama beach, a strand of pale yellow sand with crystal clear water where you can swim or sunbathe, but also surf. There is also a small supermarket close by, two combines (Familymart and Lawson) and a post office, so you will never have a problem withdrawing money or wanting for a snack late at night.
