Lovely view but a bit smelly
We spent two days at this great location. The hotel is situated on top of a cliff and must have one of the most beautiful views in Izu Hanto. Unfortunately we visited this hotel in the rainy season and it wasn't too much to see or do at this time of the year. It's a five minutes taxi rtide from the town centre of Shimoda (600 yen or so) and really worth the money as it's hard to walk 'the cliffs'. The hotel also provides a shuttle bus every other hour or so until 5pm.
The hotel is big. We got a room facing the ocean. A great view but the room was kind of run down and the aircondition didn't work. It was this 70s smell in the carpet-laid corridors and horrible to be in the elevator. I would like to go back in the sunny season only to enjoy the view and the pool of the hotel. The facilities outside is better than those inside. We paid some 18600 yen in the rainy season by booking directly on tokyuhotels.co.jp
You shouldn't pay more even though the breakfast buffet was ok.
Unique Quality: The onsen (hot water bath) at the hotel was lovely and clean.
Directions: On a hilly side of Shimoda overlooking the ocean and parts of the aquarium. The location was somewhat ok due to the great views but you must count on a taxi or shuttle bus wherever you're going as it's hilly.
