Sacred Bridge
by keeweechic
The Sacred Bridge or Snake Bridge (Shinkyo) was built in the year 1636 and leads over the Daiya river. This is a brightly colour red lacquered bridge, 28 metres long and 7 metres wide.
According to an ancient legend, Shodo-shonin crossed this bridge in the Nara period protected by the virtues of Jinjyao. The effect of the redness of the bridge and the lush green of the background is lovely.
BEAUTIFUL NIKKO
by Adeline_Foo
Over 1,200 years ago, the formidable Buddhist priest Shodo Shonin, on his way to Mount Nantai, crossed the Daiya River and founded the first temple at Nikko. Centuries later, Nikko was a renowned Buddhist-Shinto religious center, and the warload Tokugawa Ieyasu chose it for the site of his mausoleum.
We only spent one day in Nikko. It is a place worth visiting for a day trip. It was extemely cold when we were there so bring some warm clothing if you are visiting during the Spring season.
