The pagoda.

Donated by a daimyo (feudal lord) in 1650, this pagoda's 5 storey represents the elemnets - earth, water, fire, wind & heaven - in ascending order.

The pagoda is said to have no foundations & contain a suspended pole which will swing like a pendulum during eathquake thereby restoring equilibrium.
