Paul at Chuzenji Lake
From Nikko get a bus to Chuzenjo-ko lake where you can get cable car to see viewof Kegon-notaki falls. Then bus to Ryuzadaki, where you can go on the most fabulous walk (the lonely planet doesn't recommend the walk unless you have loads of time, we and everyone who we met there don't understand why!). You get to see some beautiful marshland, mountains, forests andwaterfalls andif you are lucky deer and monkeys. Its also alot less humid than most of Japan
There are some beautiful sights in Nikko, monuments, mausoleums, temples, shrines. Although it is easily do-able in a day trip from Tokyo, if you can take longer and travel round the national park too, it's better not to rush it.
