Hi, I'm moving from Scotland to spend a year in Utsunomiya teaching English. What's life like there? also,what are the best web pages to look at for information on things to do, maps, etc...

Utsunomiya is in Tochigi Prefecture about 1 hour north of Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen. It is very close to Nikko a famous tourist attraction in Japan. I taught English in Japan for 4 years (Kitakyushu and Nagano) and have a good idea of what you are likely to experience in Japan as an English teacher so feel free to take a look at my pages (sorry nothing on Utsunomiya though!) also look at my links on the Japan page... such as www.gaijinpot.com which offers good info on Japan for foreigners. Gyoza (chinese meat dumpling) is noted product of Utsunomiya. There are many gyoza restaurant there, and you can eat various kinds of gyoza there.
Utsunomiya is in Tochigi prefecture, Nikko will be the most famous and the nearest tourist spot from Utsunomiya. Besides, soba, eel or senbei are famous for noted products of Tochigi.
