Accomodation in Hachioji

by cherryplum

Hello There!
Thank you for taking the time to help me. My name is Beth and I`m from England. I have been in Japan for 1 year now....and I am an English Teacher working in Hachioji. Currently I live 35 mins commute away from work, but I`d like to live in Hachioji. I am looking for a new apartment, but I am finding it really difficult. Please tell me what is available and what agencies would be helpful for me in this area. I am considering a Gaijin House, but when I have looked on the internet, it seems like these houses are only available in central Tokyo. Do you know if there are any available in Hachioji? If not, I am willing to pay up to 100,000 per month for rent of an apartment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again. Warm regards Beth Bradley.

You're likely to find more people who can help you at places like fj.life.in-japan ( http://groups.google.com/groups?q=fj.life.in-japan&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en) or GaijinPot (http://www.gaijinpot.com/). Good luck.

If possible I suggest you find a Japanese friend who is willing to act as a guarantor for you. Then go together to a apartment rental agency and find an apartment. You will have to pay key money and they may not be willing to rent to a gaijin but you could give it a go. 100,000 yen is way more than I ever paid to live in Japan!!! You must be earning pretty good money!

I ever had friends lived in Higashi-koganeen, which is just several stations from Hachioji. There are many Gaijin house that you can have a try. And the rent are quite cheap - 30,000 - 50,000. And I think you can easily find an double-room apartment if you want to pay 100,000yen.
Good luck.

Hi Bet -

I'm also thinking of moving to Hachioji. Can you take a second to tell me what your experience has been (there's no date on your posting). I'm currently living in Setagaya-ku and need to move somewhere between here and Yokohama.

Thanks, in advance, for any input.
