Excellent location, not that great for sleeping

I chose this hotel more for the price than anything, as Tokyo hotels can run quite high. The location turned out to be an excellent one, just across from Akasaka-Mitsuke station which is on two major metro lines, making it very easy to get to the popular areas in Tokyo without any hassle. The staff are very nice and helpful. The rooms have blackout shades, which came in handy as the sun came up about an hour and half earlier than I'm used to at home.

There are many restaurants and konbini nearby (7-11 is in the hotel building). Just walk down the street on the opposite side of Akasaka-Mitsuke and you'll find just about everything including a pub or two (skip the Mermaid and walk a few more blocks down to the Hobgoblin - better atmosphere and selection of food). Citibank is very close but there's a post office nearby as well, so you have options for easily withdrawing money at a global ATM.

The drawbacks were the bed and the pillows. Guests are provided with a rice pillow and a foam one. Neither were all that great for sleeping, but at least you'll have an extra for propping up your sore feet after a full day of walking. The bed was pretty hard. We really only slept because we were exhausted from jet lag and sightseeing. One other thing to mention; the room has it's own climate control, however you won't get any A/C unless it has been turned on for the whole building (the fan will just run otherwise).

New Otani hotel - Akasaka Mitsuke.
Note: had a nice view toward its splendid japanese garden and also Shinjuku's Skyscrapers, yet too big, too impersonal, great discount thru Expedia.com…
