Love Hotels are (you guessed it) places to make love. You'll find them all over Japan. Most can be easily recognized by their neon signs and bizarre names -- Hotel Seeds, The King and I, Full Tide, Lust, to name a few. You can find such hotels all over Japan, in cities, in the countryside and often near highway exits. Their exterior is often fantastic (some resemble a cruise liner) and their interior is extravagant and stimulating. Size varies from a small room to a three story palace equipped with super large bed, ceiling mirrors, cable TV with porn, jacuzzi, sauna, pool, deck, kitchen, etc. Best of all, they are very clean, probably due to the high turnover. ☺
Love Hotels offer rooms for short time periods of usually two hours during the day and for the whole night (usually from 10 pm). A stay overnight costs from around 8000 yen up to 25,000 yen. The room fee for two hours during the day is usually a little bit lower, while on weekends, the prices can be much higher. The reception at a love hotel is very anonymous. The guests usually choose a room on a board by pressing a button and then pay at a little window where the receptionist behind cannot be seen. After a few nights in expensive tiny business hotel rooms, staying overnight in a Love Hotel is a welcome change -- and makes good financial and experiential sense. ☺ Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: All over Tokyo/Japan

Very nice but also very expensive hotel. Fortunately I got it as part of an Air/hotel package but I would have hated to have seen what the bill would have been had I booked it seperate. Definitely did not eat my meals here. the average price of a meal at the hotel restaurants was 100-200 USD. However the hotel has fantastic views of the city from the rooms Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 2-2-1 Nishi Shinjuku Shinjuku-Ku TokyoPhone: 81-3-3344-0111Directions: ShinjukuMap: Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo

 | | | | Sakura Hotel: It's heavenly after Taito Ryokan | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
After 1 night, we could not stand the noisiness of Taito Ryokan and we were all sleep-depraved. This is no way to experience a holiday! Out came our Lonely Planet guide book and armed with coins, we headed for the nearest public phone. Went through the list and found availability at Sakura Hotel. Didn't want to make the same mistake again, we decided to check out the hotel in person before booking! My, this seems like heaven after Taito Ryokan. For Yen 3780 per person per night is a quad sharing room, we got - comfy Western bed (dormi style as there were 4 of us and we wanted to stay together) - heater and air conditioning which we can control in our room - modern common toilets and bathrooms (there are 4 of each on every floor) - a TV - super clean and well kept - towels and linens are provided together with yukata (robe) - rooms are cleaned everyday As you can see, we were very pleased with this choice. It's still affordable and it's location is not too far off (close to Imperial Palace)
If only we knew about this place, we would not have considered Taito Ryokan at all. What we liked most of this place is that it's very clean and the common toilet/bathroom is one of the better ones. Location and Jimbocho station provides close access to Shinjuku, Shibuya and Tokyo Station (to airport). | | | | Taito Ryokan: Old, rickety, noisy accommodation | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
After going through the website of this place, I did not have any expectation of it. Knowing that accommodation in Tokyo is a lot more expensive, I was ready to rough it out for a couple of days. This is a very, very basic budget backpacker-style ryokan housed in an old 1950s wooden house with haphazard rooms and stairs. There are common toilets (more Japanese than Western style) but only 1 shower (with hot water) for 20+ people to share! Everything is bring your own except for the basic, thin bedding on tatami covered floor. In winter, this is definitely not enough so bring you own as well! Ask for a room with window for ventilation as they provided us with 1 room without window which is stuffy and smelly. We turned this into our luggage and changing room. Then the 4 of us cramped into the next room which is actually more suitable for 3 people. The staff speaks English and is helpful. There is no curfew and no smoking is allowed. Would I recommend this place? The answer is NO and here's why : - its location is tremendously noisy. Our room faces one of the small streets and it's continuously noisy. We were kept awake all night! Not a good experience - at Yen 3000 per person per night, it's not exactly cheap and certainly not worth paying for such poor facilities - the place is not clean and it's smelly - 1 shower for 20 people is just not working
Stay here if you really have to for its central location in the city and close proximity to Asakusa (famous temple) Theme: InnPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 2-1-4 Nishi-Asakusa, Taito-ku, 111-0035, JapanPhone: 090-5321-3599 (from overseas 81-Directions: From Tokyo station, switch to Green line and go to Ueno.
