Walking Shinjuku-Harajuku-Shibuya

by anttivehmas

How long it takes to walk from Shinjuku to Harajuku and from Harajuku to Shibuya? Is it easy to find your way trough the city?

It's not than far, it's only 1 or 2 metro stops. As long as you find the Meiji Shrine, you'll be fine.

From Shinjuku to Harajuku should take between 30min to 1.5 hours. Depends on if you get lost or how fast you go. 30min is about the fastest. Harajuku to Shibuya is about half of that.

You shouldn't get lost as long as you keep a reference. Look for the Yamanote Line and as long as you keep it on the same side, you'll be fine. Just don't wander too far from it or you just might get really lost but there are train stations all over. Worst case, find a police officer and ask for directions. Red lights on a building usually indicate a community police office.

I've walked Shibuyu to Harajuku many times. It's about 15 to 20 minutes and quite straight forward. Have not walked the other bit.

Travel Tips for Tokyo

Cigarette Vending Machines

by machomikemd

warning, cigarettes are dangerous to your health hehehe. One drawback of having cigarette vending machines is that even kids can buy one! since it is autmomated and no one will ask for ID and the age of a customer so I find this peculiar and disturbing. a cigarette pack cost about 400 yen a pack for marloboros and 450 yen for mild 7. although the cigarette vending machines are located mainly outside high volume children areas like schools or parks, it is better to stop this kind of vending machines.

Roppongi

by stonefree

You don't have to learn Japanese as long as you are in Roppongi. You will see foreigners in every 10 persons on the street. There are a lot of restaurants and bars that you can order in English. It's not my type of town really though I used to dipped into it one time. My party days of late 80's. Clubs were called discos those days and there weren't no cheap karaoke room, but just stylish bars and discos. It had been the last golden years of Roppongi itself. Gang with comrades, party like crazy, drink champagne like beer....

Hachiko the loyal dog and its loyal companion

by FelixB

In front of Shibuya station one of Toyko's most peculiar attractions can be found. It is a little statue of the dog hachiko who returned to pick up his lordling every day for years after his master's death. After the dog died, they built a bronze statue to honour the loyality of Hachiko.
The statue is the meeting point and when you are to meet someone in Shibuya, most people will tell you to wait in front of Hachiko. The problem is that there are probably hundreds of other people waiting at this spot with you what makes finding each other a hassle.

Note: When arriving at Shibuya-eki/station make sure to go to the "Hachiko Exit".
