Question on Hyperdia

by MandyGoh

Hi guys,

Am doing the train connection time for Japan.

It seems that I cannot search for trains connections in Nov. I can only choose to 30 Sept. Please advise?

Re: Question on Hyperdia

by Rabbityama

Train schedules don't change often, and generally don't change drastically even when they do change, so the information you get from a search in September should be the same for November. Just make sure you are using a weekday if you'll be traveling on a weekday or a weekend if you'll be traveling on a weekend.

Don't worry that you don't have the exact day in the search! I often just left it on the day I was typing and it worked just fine!

The trains that do tend to change are the subways. Otherwise, train times rarely change. The only exception would be to add more time, or to accommodate holiday times, such as Golden Week and the New Year's holidays.

In terms of connections, Hyperdia is only as good as the programmers. Sometimes the train staff are better than Hyperdia, and if you are converting at Narita, they can easily help you in English.

Fugu: Just a note on the "change at Shin-Osaka". Even in Japanese, they tell me to change, even though it's the same train. Because the train is changing from JR Central to JR West at Shin-Osaka, they tend to say you have to "change" trains, although many times you won't. Just an FYI.

Travel Tips for Tokyo

A lot of people! Shinjyuku.

by RoseAmano

About Shinjyuku, I have rarely been to. Yeaterday It's been a long time since I went to Shinjyuku. As this picture, People are always surging through the streets.

So you might enjoy a great variety of Japan.

A man-made city to protect against attacks.

by dennisKL

Odaiba-meaning 'fort', a man-made island at the eastern end of the Rainbow Bridge being construct to protect against attacks from the sea in history. Among the attractions of Odaiba are several shopping and entertainment centers, theme parks and museums. To get there, walk across the Rainbow bridge, take a water bus from Hinode Pier, or ride the Yurikamome monorail and get off at the Daiba stop. Odaiba Seaside Park – This park has a real beach where kids can play in the water or build their own shogun sand castles.

Crowded City - Mini Japan

by SLLiew

Tokyo has over 12 million people or 10% of Japan population.

Many of the buildings are low in height due to the seismic consideration. There are several more stable parts of Tokyo which allow skyscrappers to be built.

Tokyo has over 23 wards each run as a small municipality. Together with other neigboring towns in the Kanto plain, Greater Tokyo is the unrivalled place of choice of place to live for many young Japanese professionals. The commute hours can be as long as 2-3 hours one way by a combination of train, bus, bicycles or walking.

Tokyo is the place to be.

Nowadays the heart of this city is most often though of as being the Imperial Palace and its surrounding grounds. This is home to the Emperor of Japan and the location of Edo Castle. The castle associated with the founding of Tokyo.

Chopsticks etiquette

by angelochka

It doesnt matter how talented you are with chopsticks..it's better to follow some rules. If you are taking some food from communal bowl or tray, you are supposed to turn your chopsticks unside down and use the part that hasnt been in your mouth, after you put the food on your plate you turn chopsticks back to their proper position. The exception is chabu-chabu and sukuyaki (you put chopsticks in communal bowl with boiling broath, so it's killing bacterias). Also a very important rule-never stick your chopsticks down vertically into your bowl with rice and leave them there, which is done when a person has died. Also never pass anything from your chopsticks to another person's chopsticks-that's done only to pass the bones of the cremated. I found this info in a book about japanese cuisine which i studied carefully before my trip.. indeed a lot of useful things:)
