Budget Hotel in Ueno, Tokyo

Although it is a budget hotel in had an atmosphere like a hostel. I was initially happy with my single room which looked like as if it had been recently decorated. But there was a noisy (heating?) unit overhead in the room which soon changed my mind. I didn't get much sleep because of it. There was also something noisy outside that clicked on and off a couple of times during the night. I definitely wouldn't return.

Terrific value in Ueno

The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The staff is very helpful and speak pretty good english. There are Skype enabled PC's downstairs, free to guests. There's also a small kitchen and vending machines. You can choose from either a tatami/futon room, or a western style room. Overall, a terrific value.

Unique Quality: Don't miss the Samurai cafe, just a block away. It's a tiny bar, big enough for a half dozen people, but with great charm.

Budget Hostel/ryokan/guesthouse?

by no3lle

Hi,

I am hoping to travel to Tokyo for about 4D3N in mid-November and am now urgently seeking suitable accommodation so I can book my flight asap. Otherwise, I will have to just do a transit in Tokyo and skip Tokyo till later.

Could someone suggest a budget hotel/hostel/ryokan/guesthouse for around 4000-6000YEN for 1 person (female) in a non-seedy area of Tokyo. (I read that some parts of Shinjuku was seedy ^^) I would like my own room, would prefer own shower/room but not fussed. I would like to avoid places where I have to vacate the room from 10am to 5pm etc and non-smoking. Also, location is important to me - with affordable eateries within walking distance, close to train stations that get me to the "cheaper" shopping places and Mt Fuji.

Any comments for Oak Hotel?

Tokyo is my first destination and I will be heading to 2 more places for 2-3 weeks after Tokyo so I will be carrying 2 luggages. Read that subways are trolley-unfriendly. So am concerned about taking the train from Narita to get to my chosen accommodation. How could I deal with this?

Also, what would the temperature range be like in Tokyo in mid-November? Is mid-November a good time to travel?

Phew, lots of questions, thanks in advance!

Unless you are after guesthouses, you can stay at a modest business hotel for about 6000yen.

Thanks LLgirl.

Done a bit more research online... Seems like Shibuya and Harajuku is where the "cheaper" shopping so would appreciate any suggestions for any accommodation close to Shibuya/Harajuku or close to JR Yamanote Line for a budget of around 10000YEN for 1 person?

Yeah, many subway stations don't have elevators or escalators. But you can ship your luggages directly to your hotel from the airport. The weather should be nice in mid-Nov. And you can see the fall colours in the countryside.

How about House Ikebukuro?

Lots of eateries around ikebukuro area and they open till quite late.
about less than 10min walk to Ikebukuro Station.

You might find lugging around 2 luggages alone a feat. Especially since on the escalators, everyone keeps to the left hand side, you might be looked at with irritation if you block the right side.

You should consider the airport limousine bus. About 3000yen one way.
