Discount store

by tistra

Does anyone know brandname (Bags & Shoes)stores in Tokyo?

Re: Discount store

by bkk_kd

Branded shops (european, asian and north american) are all over. A good place to start is the Ginza and vicinity, perhaps in the major department stores such as Mitsukoshi or Takashimaya. Boutique shops are throughout the district. Same can be said for Omotesando. Worst case, you can always hit the shops in Narita airport.

Travel Tips for Tokyo

Taking the trains in Tokyo

by vincentf

Tokyo is a very convenient place to travel by taking their efficient train systems. Many tourists will use the famed Yamanote Line, as it encircles the city environs. Purchasing tickets are simple as the ticket dispensers allow money changes. However, there is a new Suica Card that is a cashless swipe card introduced in Tokyo (similar to Hong Kong's Octopus card system). Japanese are very detailed in everything they do. I noted that at every train station, there is a departure chime telling passengers that the train is about to leave the platform. But, the interesting fact is that every chime is different for each individual direction! Yes, even north/south and east/west bounded trains have different tunes. If you are fortunate to board these trains, please note once you get on/off the train. The melodies are quite nice and soothing.

Asakusa kanon temple in Ueno....

by cami2

Asakusa kanon temple in Ueno. Nice and very popular especially in sundays.
Akihabara electric town a must!!!Afterwards you'll find the usual electric shops in Europe like tiny and simple country shops. Shinju-ku, a very beautiful part of Tokyo, it does not remind you of Asia but more of big cities in Europe, lovely place with beautiful houses/buildings.

The seats in the subway are...

by zizquark

The seats in the subway are nice comfortable fabric benches. People in Tokyo take care of what they have streets are clean subways are neat and comfortable and it's all due to the way the people take care of things. This seat wouldn't last a day in New York.

AKATUKA BOTANIC GARDEN

This is taken at AKATUKA BOTANIC GARDEN. Another place where I have absolutely no idea where it is and how to get there! I think you can't find this place in most guide books! See my travelogues for more pictures!

Never pour your own glass

by angelochka

Yes, the main rule to remember when you are drinking with japanese-never pour your own glass. The rule is-in turn one person pours for everyone in the group, so be sure to hold up your glass when someone is pouring. But if noone notices your empty glass..best thing in this situation is to pour everyone else a drink so that someone will after pour yours. Also tricky situation-somebody wants to pour in your glass, but it's full..the right thing to do is to take few gulps so that the person can fill your glass..but because everyone is continuining filling everyone else's glass, you never know how much you drank, which is..very good or very bad;))
