Is this enough for a three week stay?

by wul113

Im trying to plan ahead, id figure through expedia i can get a hotel stay and flight for around 4k so the rest of the funds i plan to have is 4k for a three week stay. so i figure thats around 16k yen a day or so, could i do alot with that?

Ok, so your flights and accommodation are covered. What you have left is 16k yen per day. which is about $190US for food and activities. Unless you have very expensive tastes you certainly have enough money.

I've written a long entry into one of my pages regarding costs in Tokyo, which is also closely related to Japan as a whole.

16,000 yen is more than enough for a day. If I travel, I can usually get away with only 5000 a day, but it tends to go up when I eat dinner. :D

Travel Tips for Tokyo

Spring of Tokyo

by chapy331

Spring of Tokyo begins from opening of professional baseball game of Tokyo Dome and flowering of cherry blossom of Rikugien. Especially weeping cherry in this garden is very famous.Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the fifth Shogun has given this land(151,200sq.mi.) to his grand chamberlain Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu in 1695.Yanagisawa spent more than 7years to build up this Rikugien (garden ) as his second house with beautiful garden (he lived here in his last 5years with wife). He might have loved waka(31-syllabel) poems or for other reasons, created 88 scenes which are described in famous Kokin-waka-shu poems, together with streams, pond, mountains and a lot of plants.
"Rikugi " stands for 6 basic components of kanshi (Chinese poem). If Bushi(Samurai) in those days wanted to succeed in life, definitely need to be educated, connection and a little money to open his door.
Now you can walk around in 87,809sq.mi. area and this garden is designated as a special historic site by the national government. You can rest at chaya(tea house) in this garden and try to taste traditional Japanese maccha(powdered green tea) if you like and many souvenirs are displayed at the kiosk.

Tokyo Tip

by lenoreva

One evening, Akiyo took us to Odaiba (the Fuji television studio) and we went up the elevator. There was such a gorgeous view of Tokyo Bay, Rainbow Bridge, and Tokyo Tower. We just sat there a long time and enjoyed the beauty of it. (Sadly, the picture I took did not turn out...)

TOKYO DOME

by Adeline_Foo

Tokyo Dome is really very beautiful at night! With so many lights ... the amazing Tokyo Dome Staduim ... good restaurants to have a meal or drinks .... see how beautiful this is! I like this picture very much!

Shibuya

by stonefree

I loved this region when I was in a high school. I used to date after school with other school's girls shopping, movie, sometimes drinking...

Shibuya was complete for high school kids to date as they are in a big city like Tokyo (and a little too childish for grown-ups).

Shibuya still is the center of the current movements of Japanese teenagers.

dress conservatively

by yukisanto

As a single female traveler myself, i would like to say this to other similar travelers. When in Japan, do dress down and more. NO baring of shoulders, though short skirts seem acceptable. NO loud colours, best would be earthy tones. Most people there dress quite simply, mostly in dark colours. Unless of course, you want to make a statement. But from what I see, only teens do that in Tokyo.
