  • Satisfaction:
  • July 2003, like most places in Japan, staff spoke little English so it was a bit difficult. Tour guide had to translate most things.

    Near train station, shops etc.

    A bit old, small rooms.

    Near local markets.

    It's in Tokyo baby!!!

  • Hotel is a good choice for those that cannot afford Tokyo's luxury Western Hotels like Park Hyatt but do not stay in hostels or budget accomodations. Over 500 rooms, 5 restaurants and concierge services. Cater to more of a Asian /European clientele but some English is spoken at hotel. Rooms have refridgerators and vending machines on each floor as well as in room tea service. Rooms are small- but hey, its Tokyo. Decor is plain and a bit out-dated, but location and price make up for lack of decor. Staff nice.

Located near the towering Tokyo Metropolitan City Hall, this elegant hotel is just a few minutes walk from the skyscrapers of the financial district and the neon lights of the famous Kabuki-cho, a constantly humming nightlife quarter.

2minute walk to JR station...Airport limosine bus 3 minute away and stops at Shinjuku station....in heart of Kabuki cho many restaurants and shopping nearby on foot. Unique building structure is a great point of reference when lost in the area

We stayed here for 6 nights in Dec 2003. The other hotel we stayed at in Shinjuku was much better - cheaper, cleaner, newer, and only a few blocks further away. It was booked for the nights we requested though. Despite the fact that we got a good online deal for this hotel, we still paid more for this hotel, and thought we'd be getting something nicer.

Don't let the nice exterior and lobby fool you, the rooms are in desperate need of renovation. The "double" bed sloped down, and we kept rolling into each other while we slept. The carpet needed a serious shampooing - I was afraid to walk around barefoot. The wallpaper was stained, and at the end of our stay I saw food/crumbs under our bed - we never ate in our hotel room the whole time we were there!

The windows don't open, so we kept the A/C running all day, but even in winter it felt uncomfortably stuffy. I can't imagine how it would feel in summer! The noise from the trains and the red light district weren't too noticeable though.

I wouldn't stay here again, unless all the hotels in Shinjuku were booked. And even then, I would consider staying in another neighbourhood before staying at the Shinjuku Prince again.

Pros: Excellent location (near red light district, restaurants, shopping), TV, bar fridge, pay internet terminal in lobby, helpful front staff, no curfew

Cons: Expensive, poor value, run down rooms, slighty dirty, stuffy ventilation

Shinjuku Prince Hotel (1-30-1 Kabuki-Cho.): Hotel at a great location of Shinjuku!   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Satisfaction:
  • Even though the rooms are small, you will find however that this hotel is in a very good location. It's just about 5 mins away from one of the most busiest train station in the world! - SHINJUKU! The rooms are obviously the typical japanese hotel rooms which are small, but of course, when you are in Tokyo, you will not be in the room all the time!

On every floor there are vending machines at the lift lobbies. And either views of the hotel are great at high floors ( > 15th floor). One side faces Shinjuku's business district and a the shopping mall areas and this huge EPSON neon sign from the adjacent building. The other side showcases the red light district Kabuki - cho and Tokyo Tower.

The aren't many facilities in the hotel that I'd noticed immediately. But if you want to access the internet with your WiFi laptop, there is free internet in the lobby (basement floor).

The price of the room as compared to location was a great deal even though the rooms are small!

The shopping malls and the eating places are in close proximity.

  • Directions: Exiting of the Shinjuku station, head toward Kabuki-cho, while keeping close to the train tracks. If you are heading the right way and after walking some distance ahead, you should be able to spot this tall hotel building with dark reddish tiles.
