MiFi rental - personal mobile broadband
by ploppy123
Hello forum,
I am traveling to Japan for a week and will be out and about with my laptop. I would like to rent a mobile broadband device. There are USB ones but I would need a wireless one - one that connects to mobile broadband and creates a small wireless network for my laptop to connect to. Does anyone know where the best place would be to start looking for this rental?
Thanks in advance posters!

I took a look at a bunch of providers inside the airport and found one renting out what you are looking for:
http://www.g-phone.co.jp/
However, I won't guarantee that it will be available in Japan, but I don't see why not. The site is completely in Japanese.
If you want to do your own research, you can search on the airport website. It's one of the best resources and 10 times better than most other airport websites I've seen.

if your cell phone is compatible with japanese carriers and if it posesses wi-fi, take a look at "joiku spot" software (light version is free but works just as fine) - it turnes my nokia into the device you're looking for
Travel Tips for Tokyo
Ways to Navigate in Tokyo
by willy55
Trains service in tokyo can be very complicated, so any trip around or out of the city has to be planned beforehand to avoid be lost or wasting of time. Examples going to fuji san, hakone, nikko from tokyo. Best way is to trace the train route to the locations and from the locations get a map from the tourist information center.
From Russia with love
by SLLiew
If you are going to Tokyo Tower, you will not miss this iconic Russian Restaurant called "Volga".
The exterior looks like the entire building has been transported from Moscow Red Square to Tokyo downtown. Famous celebrities have visited this place to try out the Russian menu and to be seen.
For me, it is a photo op not to be missed.

Annk choose this picture because it reflects the contrast of the old and traditional and the modern. It is a view form the main building of the complex denominated Kozoji. The buildings are the back are not the highest in Tokyo but the constrast is there...And Tokyo, and Japan is that:
contrast.
Ghibli Museum
by stonefree
Some of those who are into Japanese anime (animation movie) may know the name of a movie production Studio Ghibli.
They have a museum of their own, never be like Disney Land though.
It's a good excursion for those Japanese anime freaks and children. The movie character Totoro will be at the reception, you can ride on the Cat Bus and you will be in the nice art in the chic cozy house like building.
It's in the site of Inokashira Park in Mitaka-shi. See their official web site (Japanese only).
Oku Chichibu is the famous...
by SR1
Oku Chichibu is the famous place of Kouyou. Kouyou means that the color of the leaf of trees changes from green to red or yellow in autumn. Japanese people like the trees' shape changing from season to season since ancient ages. When autumn comes, people go to hills and mountains to enjoy Kouyou.
Japan is crowded with cars and there's a lot of traffic congestion. Only at night it is possible to drive encontering no traffic in japan. The railroad operates regularly, even if waiting for trains is a waste of time. If you use a Motorcycle, you can quickly reach your destination. I have a Motorcycle. It is a Kawasaki ZZ-R1100, and it is light-weighted. The engine performance is 147 HP and the maximum speed is about 310 Km/h (about 192 MPh). this speed is faster than any kind of ground transportation in Japan.
OKUCHICHIBU is in Saitama Prefecture. Saitama Prefecture is located next to Tokyo. Once left the urban traffic congestion behind, you'll pass through a rich green forest area. While driving up the hills, the landscape's colour slowly change from green to yellow and green as you find yourself surrounded by trees whose leaves are turning into decay and softly fall to the ground, jst like some sort of coloured snow. It is pleasant for a way to be continuation of a curve to carry out operation of a motorcycle.
Near the top of the mountain, there 's an spring gushing out of the stone, having its water made hot by the influence of volcanic activity. It is a mystic place and it's easy to feel your tiredness be relieved.Japanese people, especially old people, love to go to these hot springs..It is called the Onsen-Ryokou trip. .It is said that plunging into these water, at about 40°C, is great for the human health.
