This was a nice small picturesque city with the Sea of Japan on one side and the Alps on the other.

This area is known for its fresh seafood, and seafood goods, such as fish sausage kamoboko.

The regional airport is small, taking in domestic traffic as well as some international flights to nearby Asian and Far East Russian cities.
