Sonshoin in Katsuura: WARNING!! Single women beware!

I stayed at Sonshoin in Nachi-Katsuura in June 2008 with a friend (another girl about my age, mid-twenties). The hotel is a very nice traditional Japanese shukubo (temple lodging), with a view on the Nachi Waterfall and I would never have expected what happened to us.

We were victims of sexual harassment from the part of the director of the hotel, who proposed to drive us to town on the pretext of showing us a nice hot spring. He then proceeded to make us stay for dinner with one of his "friends" and tried to get us drunk. I'm far from prude, but he said things that made my skin crawl.

Maybe this behaviour was made easier for him by the fact that I speak rudimentary Japanese, and that my friend was Japanese. Nevertheless, because of this sexual predator, I would not recommend this hotel to anybody, even less so to women traveling alone or in small groups! Keep away from Sonshoin!

Sonshoin Temple: Sonshoin...Japanese Temple accommodation

You can stay in a very historical and beautiful place. You see the architecture of the accommodation in this photo, and behind it you see the three-story Buddhist Tower and the Nachi waterfall.

Sonshoin Temple Accommodation: Japanese temple accommodation!

Japanese historical temple gives rooms to travellers.

Very very wonderful place,surrounded with the Seigantoji Temple,Kumano Nachi shrine, Nachi waterfall! You'll experience Japanese historical atmosphere.

Hotel Urashima: Famous for the Cave bath

Japanese style accommodation, with the famous CAVE BATH!! (Hot spring)

Hotel Urashima: Seaside hotel with the CAVE BATH!!!

This hotel is located just in front of the ocean and you get on a boat when you check-in. And what I want to recommend you most is the CAVE BATH!! It is a hot spring
