Kimiidera Temple

by SandiM

Has anyone been to the Kimiidera Temple in Wakayama? I have a couple of hours free in the city before I catch the JR to Kyoto so I wanted to visit this temple and try to take some photos of the 'weeping kannon'. However, I'm having a tough time finding out how much is the entrance fee and what the hours are on a weekday. Any help? Thanks!

I have not been to Kimiidera, but I can tell you the informations that I got from Kimiidra official website.
You wrote "weeping kannon", I can't find the information.
If the kannon is the main kannon(eleven faces kannon), we can't see it.
Because it is hidden kannon.
We can see it only every 50 years.
And last exhibition was the May of last year.
We will be able to see it in 2058 again.
But Kimiidera is famous for Sakura(cherry blossom).
If you go in the season of cherry blossom, you will have a nice time!

I've seen photos of the kannon I'm hoping to photograph--she is sitting and has 4 arms (I think) and is resting her chin in one hand. Did the website give the opening hours? I looked at that website too but could not read it.

I think "weeping kannon" will be able to see always.
Because hidden Buddhist images are two, one has many arms, and the other is standing.
I can't find the photos of kannon, and I can't tell you the strict informations.
The best way is ask the temple, I think.
I will ask tomorrow.

Yuran, here is the link to the photo. Isn't it interesting?? I've never seen a kannon look like that.

I called to Kimiidera temple.
You can enter in the temple in 8:00-17:00.
And you can see a new kannon in 8:30-16:30.
The entrance fee is 200yen, if you want to see a big kannon, it will be 300yen.
