"Part I"
I went to this festival in August with a friend. The festival happens every year to commemorate the time when the local ruling party had to pack up their entire estate and move to Tokyo for the required time of 2 years. Every two years they had to move either to Tsurouka or from Tsurouka. This was no easy task back then. They took all their servants, staff, animals, food and armies with them. Everyone had a role to play as you can see. There were the samurai to protect them, the dancers and musicians to entertain, cooks, sheppards, laborers you name it. And they did this every 2 years! Not an easy walk I might say across all the steep mountains in the heat and humidity.
