White Snakes
Every town/city/region in Japan is famous for something in the souvenir department. The best souvenirs ( omiyage ) to buy in Iwakuni is:
Iwakuni Pottery - mainly tea ware.
Anything to do with the Kintai Bridge or the White Snake .
Iwakuni Sushi - they say it is a taste unrivaled... I dunno!!
Ayu Cuisine - Ayu is a sweetfish caught in the Nishiki River.
Agricultural products: lotus root, chestnuts and shiitake mushrooms.
I was stationed at Iwakuni with the USMC. There is a large Maine air base here in addition to the local sites. I would have tho say that I enjoyed my time in Iwakuni. It was niece to be among the locals as they lived their lives and not in the larger cities of Japan.
Would like to go back some day remeber the trips to the castle and the Kinti bridge
