WHAT TO BRING?
Shimonoseki has no major airport (the closest being in Fukuoka) so you are likely to arrive here by train. Carting heavy luggage in Japanese train stations is not recommended! I suggest either a backpack or the kind of hard-wearing suitcases with wheels that are easy to pull. (Remember the stairs though!!) Shimonoseki has a fairly mild winter. It snows from time to time but not heavily. The summers are hot and humid. Everything you will need can be purchased here. There are plenty of outdoor camping opportunities in Yamaguchi Prefecture (where Shimonoseki is located). In summer you will only need a lightweight tent and either a lightweight sleeping bag or a sheet.
