3 friends and I are travelling to Almaty in early June and we need to find a hotel.
All the agencies, websites etc we have tried name the same 10 or 12 hotels, all of which are already booked on our dates or are very expensive.
There must be more hotels in Almaty. Can anyone help with the names and/or contact details of any two or three star hotels. Anywhere in the city or near the airport will do.
Please help.
Alma ata is a very expensive place, try these 3 hotels:
Tan sholpan hotel
hotel Zhetisu
hotel uyut.
You can also stay with familes, bed and breakfast, but I lost the addresses

if one of you speak/read Russian language then no problem at all.
upon arriving and booking hotel at least for a day you can find private ads in newspapers for rooms with furniture on weekly/daily basic on reasonable prices..
try to look through internet Kazakhstan newspapers in English and find some newspapers there. i am sure there are! www.newspapers.com

just imagine...you are admiring mountain's breathtaking beauty and calm..you are so into it...trying to escape everyday reality and routine..finally beginning to feel little bit relaxed..and suddenly you see David Beckham's figure, and others like Nesta, Ronaldinho...i would call it a nightmare..that's sad even for me, biggest football fan...:( how did they get till 3000m in Kazakhstan??
In Almaty one can, from May through September, while away time alone or with friends sitting under brightly coloured parasols outside cafes, watching pretty girls go by...Almaty is as famous for this as it is for its greenery at one time I lived in the building across the street.I met another one in the central area and tried to chat her up a bit, but did not get too far, partly because the girl was about 15 and secondly because she was for some reason on a horse!The city is full of green trees, bushes, fountains. It was said, in Soviet times, that Alma-Ata was the most green city of the Soviet Union, after Kiev
Aport apples are pride and joy of the city. These are the huge apples growing just in this region. They are very tasty and have great flavour. The cases of an apple being as heavy as 1 kg were not rare.
When in Alma-Ata, it is worth looking for them - though there are few chances you might be lucky. Unfortunately, these apples are becoming more and more rare.
There are several skiing resorts around Almaty, but Chimbulak is the most advanced, spectacuar and expensive one. It is situated in 5 km up the road from Medeo dam and skating rink. In oppinion of many experienced skiers, Chimbulak slopes are one of best in the world. And you may catch snow there as late in Spring as in May. Equipment rental is rather expensive. Better to bring yours, of course.
This is the place to come to enjoy some of the shows available almost all year round inside the "tent" or if you want to just hang around, practice some shooting, walk along the trees or enjoy an exciting ride on a camel or circus horses whose traineers can teach you a few tricks, just ask for Ramiz, Chinguiz or "Jackie Chan" :)
