Cold, Damp, and Somewhat Depressing

I had high hopes for the Silk Road Lodge. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

Described as a "luxurious" hotel on it's website, nothing could be further from the truth. With a largely inedible breakfast, cold and damp rooms, a bad location, and Soviet-like service, I would strongly reccomend staying away from the Silk Road.

Note: the "Sculpture Garden" referenced on the website is total crap.

Unique Quality: Half-baked sculpture garden

Excellent service and value

We arrived here after some trouble at another hotel opposite the Russian Embassy. It was very refreshing to stay here, and the hotel staff were VERY helpful. They have a very good business room, with a speedy Internet connection. The rooms are also of an excellent standard.

Top marks.

Biggest 5 story hotel I have ever been in

I arrived at Silk Road Lodge after a disheartening turn of events on what was supposed to have been a very happy trip. The rates are a bit higher than many hotels in former Soviet states but the facilities are WELL worth the price. A "small" single room was larger than any I have been in in any European four star, from Prague, to Paris, to London, plus Mosocw and St. Petersburg. The staff was very professional but VERY friendly and helpful. The restuarant was totally equal to the task, the food was delicious, the variety was amazing.

Unique Quality: There was an indoor pool available, plus a sauna to cater to your personal "creature comforts. There was also a large cofrence room on the fifth floor with video confrencing available, and a fully equiped business office with a very helpful, competent staff.

If your planning business in Bishkek, be sure to look at this establishment. The same company also runs a lodge off in the hinterlands of Kyrgyzstan that could well fit into an extended vacation expolring this country of contrasts.

The "biggest" small hotel I have ever been in!

My visit to Bishkek started out to be an opportunity to meet a specific goal. Unfortunately other forces I had not expected, dealt us a staggering blow. So My stay in Bishkek became a tourist visit unplanned and an excise in how to make lemonade when your handed lemons unexpectedly.
The staff at Silk Road Lodge made my stay not just acceptable but an event I will long remember, not for the unpleasantness that preceded my stay there but for the way they helped me plan a worthwhile visit to Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan worth coming home to write about.
If that hotel were built out of the same material as the people who work there and run it, no one could afford the gold required!
I meet the one of the owers, the manager and the assistant manager. The professional attitude starts at the top and flows all the way down.

Unique Quality: The people are totally professional, totally committed to welcoming you in a manner that facilitates your goals whether it be business or personal vacation they seem prepared to handle everyone from the CEO to the peon. The rooms are Beautiful, I have traveled in Europe and stayed in what were "billed" as five star hotels on "Diplomats Row" and never seen rooms as large and well appointed and equipped as even the "small" room in this establishment. I am used to the European style hotel rooms where if you can change your mind in the room it is too big! (This "place" even has 12 foot ceiling, you never see that even in the US).
The food was DELIGHTFUL, the resturant staff was DELIGHTFUL. I could go to a hotel like this, stay indoors for the whole visit and still feel it was a "worthy" experience.
