Lao Pako - Ban Lao Pako: Sleeping in the jungle by the river...

by Liatris1

Lao Pako in 2001, now called Ban Pako or Ban Lao Pako, situated along a branch of Mekong River - We stayed in a nice bungalow with bathroom and balcony-terrace for 3 nights. We walked the jungle trails, and enjoyed the herbal steam bath and spring bath afterwords. We even deared to paddle in a very narrow wooden canoe (with no protection for the camera...) over the river for a walk in the jungle just across from our bungalow. And of course, we relaxed on our balcony or at the restaurant chating with the staff and other travellers.

This was in 2001, but I remember very vividly that we paid 1.3 million Lao Kip, in 5000 notes (!), for 3 nights +in a bungalow food, drinks and steambath. It seems like very much, but it's not.

River view, herbal steam bath and spring. Quiet except for the jungle sounds...

Villa Maly: Luang Prabang

by winga

Nice and comfortable overpriced hotel. Friendly staff.

Vansana Plain of Jars: Phonsavan

by winga

The hotel is located quite far from down town, which is not neglectable since after sun set you cannot literally find any tuk-tuk to return to the hotel. The room was nice and comfortable with a balcony view of the countryside.

Elephant Crossing Hotel: Vang Vieng

by winga

We had a triple standard room which was quite unsatisfactory: dark, poor furnishings and the bathroom was truly unadjectivable. Not recommended at all.

City Inn Hotel: Vientiane's Sleeping

by winga

The City Inn is centrally located. Rooms are clean and include modern furnishings. Some might not appreciate the concrete floor finishing. WIFI is available in rooms and there is a desktop with Internet connection in the lobby. Breakfast is satisfactory. The staff if very friendly but only two or three can speak English... Good value for the money.

Don Chane Palace: A 5* hotel

by hientonkin

I stayed for 1 night in Don Chan Palace, the hotel located by Mekong River bank and all open land surroundings, so good view if your room face the river. My Room face the front of the hotel.
The lobby is not well located, staffs are friendly.
Breakfast is good. Often big groups will stay in the hotel.
I think I would prefer somewhere smaller and centre located cause the walk back to the hotel is pretty dark from 9pm.

Nong Kiau Riverside: Fantastic resort in Nong Kiau / Nong Khiaw

by SteenKR

Travelling in Northern Laos CAN be an exhausting experience but there is a few highlights like Nong Kiau Riverside.
Nong Kiau is considered the most scenic spot in Northern Laos, it is a natural stopover for travellers as well as a great starting point for trekking, river kayaking, boattrips and MTB trips.
The sleepy village contains one de luxe hotel with spacious bungalows situated beautifully along the river. It features four poster beds, hot showers and the village's best restaurant.
The staff speaks excellent English and is managed by the Danish owner in a very democratic manner. This means they can take decisions and do their uttermost to offer a good service.
Enjoy your stay!

40 square meter bungalows with river view and hot showers
Excellent restaurant
Great and friendly service
Own adventure company, Green Adventure

Villa Nam Song: Riverside Accommodation

by Robmj

Slightly out of town (5 mins walk), these villa's are upmarket but still cheap by Western standards and have a stunning setting beside the Nam Song River.

Great riverside verandah bar and restaurant.

Phashoke Guest House: Phashok Guest House in Luang Prabang

by chengdu

I stayed at Phashoke Guest House in Luang Prabang for 3 nights. It is located at the lane between the famous cafe JOMA and the post office.
