Good but expensive

Stayed at the Calao Inn, which is very nice. The staff was great and we loved our big family suite and the view from the terrace on the Mekong (see picture).

Le Calao Inn

On my second day in LP I decided to go for a expensive hotel, as it was my last night in Laos. I tried first in Villa Santi and then had a look in Le Calao, a nice old hotel in front of the Mekong, with river views.
It is centrally located, in a quiet area of the old town. Maybe a little too far from the very centre. Not too far, but if you have to return here through dark alleys late at night, it can be rather uncomfortable...
The place is cool, colonial and the rooms are medium-high standard, with nice balconies to the river.
But at the end I chose the Villa Santi, as you get a much higher standard for nearly the same price (60 USD here for a double).
Brakfast included.
