Mai Pai Inn House

Luang Prabang has something very amazing about the price of accommodation. I found it out by one of the rickshaw driver about this small home made accommodation place, where I got a place to stay for only 2.00 US$ per night. However the town is very small and almost every house is an accommodation place.

All the places of interest/activities are in one street which was just 10 minutes walk from that Mai Pai House. Organizer of the place was an old Turkish man, who found himself home in Luang Prabang among lots of places in Far and South East he had been in last 6 odd months. He was kind of self exiled anti democracy writer. He rented this house and upgraded it into an Inn. He would let you believe that Adam was Turk and whole recent and ancient world is originally Turk whether European, African or Asian or whoever....

Unique Quality: Very cheap if I compare it with the prices of the rest of the things in Luang Prabang. It had a shared bath room. Only disadvantage, lots of mosquitoes...

If you wake very early in the morning you would witness one of the most amazing features of Luang Prabang, when thousands of novices would be walking their way back in one straight line through this street to one of the old temple...

Very expensive, but OK

We had stayed at the sister hotel Le Parasol Blanc in Vientiane (there is also a Parasol Blanc in Luang Phabang), and expected similar. We were disappointed.
The pricing was outrageous ($75 per room per night) when compared to places that are actually better (e.g. Thongbay at $17), and then they wouldn't accept Master Card or Visa despite confirming explicitly by fax that they did!! As we had two rooms for six nights, we needed to pay by cash. This involved a credit card surcharge of 7% (!!) at another hotel and carrying around 6.5 million kip in 5,000 kip notes. How long do *you* think it takes to countr through 1300 bank notes?
The rooms were quite nice...but not nice enough at $75, quite frankly.
The dining room was deserted in the evenings. We never ate there in the evening, because the poor quality of the food at breakfast suggested that the cook was away on holiday or dead.
It is a long walk from the centre.

Unique Quality: Swimming pool that looked good. Unimaginative gardens.
Nice balconies.
