Quiet and romantic inn by the Nam Khan

I thought this place was very romantic. It's on the more sleepier side of Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is on a small pennisula-so everything is in walking distance. Many great temples, restaurants, and shops nearby. The night market is around a 10-15 minute walk from the guesthouse.

The inn/guest house has about 5 or 6 rooms. I found this one to be the nicest. So if you stay here you may want to ask for this one. As the other rooms are more plain, but we stayed there in April 2004. I looked at their website ---- and it looks like they have made some renovations. The rooms have air conditioning and fan, but in Laos the electricity can go out anytime. When we were there, the bathrooms were very basic and small. There was a small daybed in the room-so technically sleep another person or child. The steps to the second floor were kind of steep. If you are into luxury-than you should stay at the Villa Santi Hotel, which is more expensive.

They have a lovely simple breakfast. Grilled baguettes served with homemade tropical jams, papaya, mango and banana. Very nice with some Lao tea.

Romantic Little Inn on the Khan River

The Apsara is a gem of an inn along the Khan river in the heart of old Luang Prabang. Only 7 rooms, all beautifully furnished in local style and air-conditioned. The upstairs rooms have a balcony that overlooks the river and street below. Very quiet and private. Within easy walking distance of all the city's sights. Nice continental breakfast and good restaurant and bar. Run by a very friendly German man and his Lao wife, with very helpful staff. Ideal for couples.
