Cost of ride to Pak Ou caves

by stamporama

I read that transport to the caves could be either by boat or tuktuk/jumbo. May I know how much would a tuktuk/jumbo cost and how long will the trip take from LP?

I wouldn't have thought it feasible to travel to Pak Ou by road. Maybe some others can comment. I took the trip by river from Luang Prabang. It was an interesting half-day trip, specially if you are not coming into Laos by boat from Huay Xai in Thailand.

Actually, you can travel to Pak Ou village by road (well, rough track really). I did it recently on a hired motorbike, although the route is plied by jeeps / tuk tuks from the city. It is then possible to negotiate with the boatmen. You will find them by going into the village, taking the first little track on the left and following it down to the river. You may well find this is cheaper as it cuts out the travel agent.

I saw the people always took the boat to Pak-ou caves and I have been there by taking a boat. I don't remember for the cost.

Tourist Information Centre

by Willettsworld

This useful Tourist Information Centre is located on the corner of the main road that goes through the old town and the road that goes down towards the local food market and river. Inside you'll find many maps, leaflets and other information.

Laundry

by oerkenbo

There're a lot of convenience stores along Sisavangvong that also provide dropoff laundry servcies. It costs about $1 per kilo, wash, dry, iron and "smell good"! You drop of your laundry and voila, you get them the next day. No fuss at all.

D.I.Y.

Although most of the restoration works will be bear by UNESCO, but new construction or extension of the wats will be still very much on donations and monks may need to do some works instead of just meditation and regular monkhood stuffs.

Behave properly

by SirRichard

You can find these signs here and there. They indicate basic rules about public manners: dress respectfully when in temples, don't throw litter...
Anyway, if you follow civilised rules, just behave with a certain common sense and respect!

Khuang Si "Fall"

by muddybok

Jumping from higher point into water at Khuang Si Falls is almost a must do for all the naughty boys & girls.

I heard certain point have rope for swinging from top and finally splash into water and that could be great fun too.

Sorry for the blur picture taken, but basically you can jump from point "x" and finally splash into pool down there.
