We flew with Laos airlines from Vietianne to Siem Reap and they were fine, we paid around USD800 but this was part of BKK Airways discovery pass which made it quite economical. You will have not probs as woman alone in LP.

HI!

Not too sure if there are flights connecting LP to SR...there are certainly flights from LP to BK and then BK to SR.

Have pages on LP & SR should you care to take a look and see if the tips are any useful....

Checked it out on Bangkok Airlines LP-SR I put in 5/11 it came up with $US400 one way. I can't get the cost on Laos airlines. I would suggest you use a travel agency in LP to assist $US400 seems very exepensive. Checkout my LP pages we used a travel agent in the main street who has a web site. I would suggest Nam Sok GH it has rooms starting from $US10 very clean, safe & friendly close to the river. I think you will be very safe in LP.

Hi!
Nowsadays you can book air ticket on-line from http://www.laoairlines.com/ and get the price, schedule and other info. There's direct connection from LPB to SR by Lao airlines and it's safe to travel with them.
Many things you can do in LPB from exploring architecture, night market shopping, eating delicious Lao foods, seeing Kuangsi waterfall and elephants (see Elephant park project from Tiger trail on the page: http://www.laos-adventures.com/). Depends on your interests!
Hope that helps and have a nice stay in LPB!

Local food - khai phun

by thedouglas

This is a food which is relatively unique to Luang Prabang made from moss or seaweed - another product of the Mekong - season for making this is February to March, when we were there. The weed is collected from the river, cleaned and seasoned with salt, tomatoes and garlic - and set out on grass mats to sun dry. It can be eaten dried or deep fried and enjoyed with sticky rice.

I have eaten this a few times - as I've been fortunate enough to be there "in season" - and its beautiful - crispy fried, and lovely with a cold beer! A fairly mild flavour, more of a "chip" than anything else.

A rice popsicle?

by richiecdisc

Though not as popular as the coconut pancakes, these convenient little snacks were good if you were experiencing any stomach ailments. It was basically some preformed rice that was on a stick and roasted over an open fire. At only 1000 Kip (12 cents), how could you not try one?

The other side of the Mekong

by oerkenbo

There are a few villages and temples on the side of the Mekong. You can catch a fast boat to go across. Need to negotiate the fare a bit. You'll pay more than the locals -- suck it up!

The other side is not quite gentrified like LP itself. There are a few temples there as well. Wat Chom Phet gives on the Mekong with a nice view of LP town.
